Job summary

Heaviside Industries in Los Angeles, CA, seeks a Production Engineering & Design professional to lead assembly instructions, drive manufacturability, and manage supplier relationships for precision munitions. You will optimize core production processes, support new product introductions, and ensure ECO/ECR-driven changes are implemented on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
• Hands-on experience with CNC machining, injection molding, and assembly processes.
• Experience managing subcontractors/suppliers in production contexts.
• Familiarity with ECO/ECR change processes and documentation.

What You Will Do

Production Engineering & Design

• Develop and maintain assembly instructions and work instructions for production
• Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing
• Drive Design for Manufacturability (DfM) reviews and improvements

Manufacturing Processes

• Apply in-depth knowledge of core production processes like CNC machining, assembly, injection moulding, and overmoulding
• Evaluate and select appropriate manufacturing methods for components and assemblies
• Identify process improvements and drive efficiency across production workflows

Supplier Development

• Manage and follow up subcontractors and external manufacturers
• Ensure subcontractors meet quality, delivery, and technical requirements
• Collaborate with suppliers on process capability, non-conformances, and continuous improvement
• 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing
• Operate and maintain 3D printing equipment for prototyping and production support

Change Management

• Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and Engineering Change Requests (ECR)
• Coordinate cross-functional review and approval of production changes
• Ensure changes are properly documented and implemented on the shop floor

RMA & Repair Analytics

• Support and manage the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process
• Conduct repair analysis and identify recurring failure patterns
• Report on RMA trends and drive corrective actions

Tool Calibration & Maintenance

• Plan and execute tool calibration schedules
• Maintain calibration records and ensure compliance with traceability requirements
• Coordinate preventive maintenance of manufacturing equipment

ERP & MES Systems

• Utilize ERP and MES systems to manage production data, BOMs, and routings
• Ensure data accuracy and support digital workflow improvements

What We Are Looking For

• Background in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical education
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, assembly, injection molding, and over molding
• Experience managing subcontractors and external suppliers in a production context
• Hands-on experience with 3D printing technologies and processes
• Strong understanding of change management processes in a production environment (ECO/ECR)
• Experience creating and maintaining assembly instructions and work procedures
• Working knowledge of ERP and/or MES systems
• Experience with RMA processes, repair workflows, and failure analysis
• Familiarity with tool calibration processes and maintenance planning
• Structured, detail-oriented approach to documentation and process discipline
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR<br>120.62)

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience from the defense industry — familiarity with regulatory requirements, traceability demands, and quality standards
• Knowledge of RF products and their manufacturing considerations
• Experience with battery testing procedures and safety requirements

Additional Information

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case‑by‑case basis and may vary based on job‑related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full‑time hires, you may also be eligible for long‑term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
