Job summary

Overhead Door Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer to optimize plant layouts, equipment and processes, driving cost reductions and productivity across manufacturing operations.

You will lead cross-functional projects, mentor teams, and collaborate with Production and Engineering while traveling to facilities and suppliers to implement improvements.

Qualifications

  • 4-10 years of experience.
  • Project leadership experience.
  • Lean manufacturing training and experience - Certified Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge/experience with equipment justification, assembly, consumer product manufacturing, and vendor relations preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing regarding the quality and/or performance of machinery, tooling, fixtures, gauges, etc.
  • Serve as liaison between Production and Engineering by developing engineering change notices and process specifications pertaining to manufacturing processes and material specifications.
  • Analyze and establish plant/workstation layouts for efficient operating conditions.
  • Develop and maintain work measurement analysis based on MYM, Most, Time Study, or Ease.
  • Recommend and justify the most efficient use of existing production equipment; justify new equipment based on labor/material savings.
  • Oversee manufacturing processes of new and existing products including ergonomic assessment and cost improvements; specify and recommend new equipment and processes.
  • Travel to company facilities, vendors, seminars and expositions by air or car rental.
  • Perform assembly operations to establish accurate costing standards and train hourly associates.
  • Assist incoming inspection in disposition of rejected materials.
  • Monitor and recommend improvements on equipment, machinery, processes, etc.
  • Operate a PC to compile incentive standards, record storage and project evaluation.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Job description

The Position

  • Serve as liaison between Production and Engineering departments by developing engineering change notices and process specifications pertaining to manufacturing processes and material specifications.

  • Responsible for analyzing, evaluating, and establishing the plant and workstation layouts to insure the most efficient operating conditions.

  • Develops and maintains work measurement analysis based on MYM, Most, Time Study, or Ease.

  • Recommends and justifies the most efficient use of existing production equipment. Provides new equipment justification based on labor and material savings.

  • Responsible for the manufacturing process of new and existing products, including: ergonomic assessment, productivity improvements, manufacturability, and cost improvements. Specify and recommend new equipment, processes and tooling both during the engineering cycle and post design stages of implementation.

  • Travel by airplane and/or drive rental or company automobile to all company facilities, vendor, or seminars and expositions.

  • Perform any assembly operation including material handling and machining operation in order to establish accurate costing standards and to train and instruct hourly associates.

  • Assist incoming inspection in the disposition of rejected materials.
