Manufacturing Engineer
About the Role
The Manufacturing Engineer provides technical leadership and operational excellence support to manufacturing, ensuring safe execution of work while meeting engineering, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. This role serves as a subject matter expert in welding and fabrication, industrial processes, and can drive LEAN manufacturing transformation across the shop floor.
You will support a team of 2 engineers serving 61 manufacturing employees, partnering closely with operations and engineering to improve throughput, reduce scrap, strengthen process discipline, and sustain Standard Work and visual management practices. Success looks like stable, scalable production with measurable improvements in SQDC performance.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the manufacturing SME for structural welding, fabrication, and integrated production systems.
- Partner with design engineering to ensure manufacturability (DFM) and efficient product design.
- Lead structured root cause analysis and resolution of production issues to prevent recurrence.
- Review and approve ECO/ECR changes to ensure manufacturing readiness and workflow integrity.
- Lead cost and productivity improvement initiatives to reduce cost, improve labor efficiency, and minimize scrap.
- Optimize facility layout and material flow to support scalable, high-efficiency operations.
- Support benchmarking and continuous improvement efforts tied to SQDC targets.
- Deploy LEAN manufacturing practices (6S, Standard Work, Visual Management) through consistent application across operations.
- Drive value stream optimization focused on flow, waste reduction, and SQDC performance.
- Design and implement tooling, jigs, fixtures, and material handling solutions to improve safety and throughput.
- Review and update routers, defining process steps, sequence of operations, work instructions, and labor hour estimates.
- Conduct time studies and maintain accurate routing and process data to sustain process control.
- Coach and train teams on process discipline and problem-solving methodologies while reinforcing safety and quality accountability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Welding Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience with welding and machining.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with AutoCAD and engineering 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience applying LEAN principles (Standard Work, 6S, Visual Management).
- Proven experience in facility layout, material flow design, and process optimization.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, including weld symbols and GD&T.
- Ability to read and understand WPSs and PQRs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally across engineering, operations, and supply chain.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and process discipline in daily execution.
