Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer will design, develop, qualify, industrialize, and continuously improve products and production processes at B&T USA’s Herriman facility. This role integrates mechanical design, additive manufacturing, CNC milling and turning, tooling, fixturing, testing, and shop-floor execution. The Engineer will identify appropriate additive manufacturing opportunities, apply design for additive manufacturing principles, and help develop stable build and post-processing workflows while supporting the broader range of conventional manufacturing needs. The Engineer will own work from concept and prototype through validation, production launch, and continuous improvement, partnering with operations, quality, supply chain, and product development to deliver safe, repeatable, traceable, scalable, and cost-effective solutions.

Key Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and develop components, assemblies, accessories, tooling, fixtures, and work-holding devices using 3D CAD, with particular emphasis on designs enabled or improved by additive manufacturing.
  • Lead additive manufacturing applications from opportunity identification and business cases through design, build preparation, parameter development, qualification, post-processing, inspection, and production release.
  • Apply design for additive manufacturing principles to consolidate parts, reduce weight and lead time, improve performance, enable complex internal features, and create geometries impractical with conventional processes.
  • Evaluate additive materials, equipment, build orientation, support strategies, nesting, process parameters, and in-process monitoring for metal and polymer applications.
  • Define and validate complete additive workflows, including material or powder handling, heat treatment, support removal, machining, surface finishing, inspection, traceability, and safe operating practices.
  • Develop, document, validate, and continuously improve manufacturing processes from prototype through production.
  • Create engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, process plans, routings, work instructions, inspection strategies, and technical documentation.
  • Support new product development from concept through production launch, including engineering analysis, tolerance stack-ups, prototype testing, design validation, and data analysis.
  • Optimize subtractive processes such as multi-axis CNC milling, turning, drilling, deburring, and finishing for quality, throughput, tool life, and cost.
  • Support CNC programming, cutting-tool selection, feeds and speeds, workholding, machine capability studies, and process troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate existing products and processes to identify design improvements, cost reductions, capacity gains, and opportunities to transition suitable components to additive or hybrid manufacturing.
  • Lead failure investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions for yield, dimensional, cosmetic, product-performance, and process-control issues.
  • Use data to improve first-pass yield, cycle time, capacity, overall equipment effectiveness, scrap, and labor efficiency.
  • Support equipment selection, capital projects, installation, commissioning, qualification, and production readiness, including additive manufacturing systems and supporting post-processing equipment.
  • Collaborate with Quality to establish control plans, capability requirements, inspection methods, product testing, and compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
  • Participate in Engineering Change Order (ECO) processes, product lifecycle management, document control, and cross-functional technical reviews.
  • Provide hands-on technical support to production personnel and promote safe work practices, disciplined change control, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Three to five years of engineering experience in a precision manufacturing environment, including practical involvement with additive manufacturing and CNC machining.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar 3D CAD software; experience preparing models specifically for additive manufacture is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and inspection requirements.
  • Working knowledge of additive process selection, build preparation, support design, materials, thermal effects, distortion, tolerancing, metrology, surface finish, and post-processing.
  • Experience with CNC machining processes, manufacturing methods, design for manufacturability, and design for additive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials, including steels, aluminum, polymers, heat-treated components, and materials used in additive manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from concept through testing, validation, production launch, and continuous improvement.
  • In-depth knowledge of firearms and suppressor design, function, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Experience with process documentation, statistical analysis, structured problem solving, and manufacturing quality systems.
  • Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with a hands‑on approach to balancing urgent production support and longer‑term development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with metal additive manufacturing, polymer additive manufacturing, or hybrid manufacturing systems, including process qualification and production scale‑up.
  • Experience with additive build software, topology optimization, lattice structures, simulation, or distortion compensation.
  • Experience with multi‑axis machining, additive post‑processing, heat treatment, advanced inspection, or validation testing.
  • Familiarity with FEA, design validation, equipment validation, risk analysis, and regulated or high‑reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ERP and document‑control systems, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, design of experiments, and statistical process control.
  • Experience introducing new products and transferring both conventional and additive processes from development into production.
Measures of Success
  • A qualified pipeline of additive manufacturing applications that delivers measurable product, lead‑time, cost, or supply‑chain advantages.
  • Stable, capable, traceable, and well‑documented additive and conventional production processes.
  • Successful industrialization of new products from design and prototype through validated production release.
  • Measurable gains in quality, throughput, lead time, cost, first‑pass yield, and equipment utilization.
  • Timely resolution of manufacturing constraints, design issues, and recurring quality problems.
  • Strong adoption of standard work, process controls, engineering change discipline, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Work is performed in office and manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to machine‑shop conditions may include noise, dust, odors, fumes, and similar manufacturing elements.
Physical Requirements

Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop or crouch.
  • Visual acuity to inspect components and review detailed engineering drawings.
