Job summary

Honda Aircraft Company in Greensboro, NC seeks a Manufacturing Engineer – Planning to own planning for fabrication and installation of detail parts and assemblies to the aircraft and maintain the build sequence. You will maintain the master build sequence, manage engineering changes, create planning for changes, support Change Requests and corrective actions, and help ensure airworthiness through planning.

A technical degree and 2+ years of planning experience are preferred, with GD&T and IPT

Qualifications

• 2+ years of manufacturing engineering planning experience in fabrication, assembly, and installation of detail parts and aircraft installations.
• Degree preferred but not required (engineering).
• Experience planning for composite drilling, 3–5 axis machining of metals, electrical harness and avionics installations, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Experience planning electrical harnesses is a plus.
• GD&T experience is a must, IPT experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the master build sequence of the aircraft and adjust the sequence for efficiency, cost reductions, and to minimize rework.
• Manage incorporation of engineering changes to planning and maintain Change Books for each build position.
• Create planning for engineering-driven changes against obsolete parts in-stock, as directed by leadership.
• Support review and creation of Change Requests affecting planning.
• Support corrective action investigations and resolutions.
• Support addressing planning issues impacting issuance of the Certificate of Airworthiness.
• Create and maintain the master MBOMs.

Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer – Planning is responsible for all planning functions for the fabrication and installation of detail parts and assemblies to the aircraft for multiple systems and structures and maintaining the build sequence of the aircraft

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. 1. Maintain the master build sequence of the aircraft adjusting the build sequence as required to maintain efficiencies, incorporate cost reductions, and eliminate unnecessary disassembly, travelled work, and non-conformances related to planning.
2. 2. Manage the incorporation of engineering changes to planning and create/ manage Change Books to relate changes coming to each position of the aircraft build.
3. 3. Create planning for engineering driven changes against obsolete parts in-stock, as directed by leadership
4. 4. Support the review and creation of Change Requests (CR’s) for impacts to planning.
5. 5. Support Corrective Action investigations and resolutions
6. 6. Support addressing issues with planning affecting the issuance of the Certificate of Airworthiness against the aircraft
7. 7. Create and maintain the master MBOM’s

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:

1. 1. 2+ years Mfg. Engineering planning experience with the fabrication, assembly, and installation of detail parts, assemblies, and aircraft installations
2. 2. B.S.M.E., B.S.A.E., B.S.I.E., or B.S. Mfg. Eng./ Eng. Tech. preferred, but not required.
3. 4. Experience in creating and maintaining planning for composite drilling and assembly, 3 and 5 axis machining of metals, electrical harness and avionics installations, and sheet metal fabrication a must.
4. 5. Experience in creating and maintaining planning for building electrical harnesses a plus.
5. 6. Experience with GD&T a must.
6. 7. Experience in an IPT (Integrated Product Team) format is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. 1. Proven knowledge of configuration management and creation/ maintenance of MBOM’s is a must.
2. 2. Proven ability to convert complex processes into easy to understand, and follow, instructions
3. 3. CATIA V5/ V6 experience is a plus.
4. 4. SAP experience is a plus.
5. 5. Teamcenter Manufacturing/ Process Planning creating MBOM’s and BOP’s are a plus.
6. 6. Ability to analyze a variety of engineering data to help determine how to meet company objectives.

Physical Requirements:

1. 1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
2. 2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.

Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
