Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for performance and continued growth of the Fort Smith manufacturing facility, including the safety of all employees, process optimization, and training and development. This position strives to provide an environment for continuous improvement and target achievement for their team of responsibility and throughout the facility.

Job Responsibilities
Living the Owens Corning Safety Stand – Living Safely
  • Ensures a safe and environmentally compliant workplace where safety is a first priority
  • Leads by example through hazard recognition and elimination
Delivery to Customer and Business
  • Being a subject matter expert on the critical product characteristics required to provide customers with a quality product
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Supporting trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet customer fitness for use
  • Coordinating with upstream and downstream processes to meet production demands aligning people, raw material and machine capacities
Process Performance
  • Support the TPM process through daily management and participating in AM area or pillar teams as required
  • Accountable for ensuring process is run to specifications utilizing SPC control
  • Plan and execute planned maintenance shutdown work for operations coordinating with the planned maintenance pillar
  • This position will be the primary point of contact for line issues and management as needed
  • Support plant maintenance and operations teams in system and equipment troubleshooting and technology transfer
  • Perform root cause analysis in partnership with key stakeholders to address quality issues, implementing sustainable corrective actions for process shifts or upsets
  • Analyze product and process data to optimize performance. Identify and implement process improvements and best practices with the goals being enhanced safety, functionality and efficiency
Leading and Developing Talent
  • Educate primary employees in the manufacturing process and process control procedures
  • Engage team members to collaboratively own the success of the business by contributing to continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, productivity, etc.
  • Recognize and reward positive behaviors and contributions to critical plant performance metrics
  • Effectively communicate critical plant performance metrics to team members daily to ensure engagement
  • Monitor and enforce all plant and corporate policies and procedures
  • Leverage standard work to minimize variation and waste
  • Lead focused improvement activities to improve process capability and efficiencies, reduce costs and eliminate waste
  • Partner with relevant stakeholders to optimize the process and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in and lead TPM, Kaizen and 5S events in various work areas throughout the plant
Essential Qualifications
Experience
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline and 2 or more years technical experience in a manufacturing environment or 5+ years progressive technical experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Eligible for work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of work processes and procedures on one or more production lines

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safeguard self with proper PPE for the specific task
  • Exposure to hot/cold temperature – periodically
  • Exposure to noise – periodically
  • Hand/eye coordination – continuously
  • Walk, sit, stand for duration of shift with regular breaks
  • Lift/carry/move up to 25 lbs. independently and heavier weights with assistance
  • Climb stairs, steps, and ladders
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Operate computers and computerized equipment for quality, safety and compliance testing and training
  • Communicate with coworkers face to face, by telephone, and electronic communications
  • Possess manual dexterity necessary to operate equipment, a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Vision is adequate to manipulate equipment controls, complete paperwork, utilize computers, and have depth perception
