Job summary

Silk Road Technologies Canada seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to continuously improve plant efficiency. You will specify new machinery, automate lines, and support maintenance to optimize processes and reduce costs.

This role requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and strong Microsoft Office and communication skills, with experience in IATF16949, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO-14001 procedures.

Qualifications

  • Requires a four-year degree or five years plus relevant experience.
  • Proficient in reading and applying IATF16949, ISO9001:2015 and ISO-14001 procedures.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Specify and implement new machinery in the plant.
  • Follow up on transfer bars and fingers for transfer presses.
  • Automate jobs for automated lines and improve processes.
  • Generate cost and labor reduction ideas and opportunities.
  • Maintain and update PLC software and programs.
  • Assist maintenance as needed and support operations management.
  • Engineer small equipment and poke-yokes; improve ergonomics.

POSITION SUMMARY

Continuously involved in manufacturing process to improve efficiency by performing the following duties.

JOB TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Specify and follow up on new machinery coming into the plant.
  • Specify and follow up on new transfer bars and fingers all types of transfer presses.
  • Automate new jobs and takeover jobs for all automated lines.
  • Generate process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Generate cost and labor reduction ideas and opportunities
  • Maintain backup PLC programs on server.
  • Continuously research new technology and see where it can be applied at L&W.
  • Assist maintenance when needed.
  • Work with Operations Management to justify new products and projects.
  • Write and debug programs for small equipment.
  • Engineer/design small equipment such as poke-yokes.
  • Improve ergonomics at manufacturing work centers.
  • Maintain and upgrade required PLC software for all departments.
  • Go offsite to review possible takeover business.
  • Spec out auxiliary equipment needed for the manufacturing process.
  • Help in departmental operation wherever necessary.
  • Punctual and predictable attendance required.
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all duties.
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an advanced level.
  • Effective email and electronic communication skills
  • Responsible for reading and understanding the IATF16949, ISO9001: 2015 and ISO-14001 procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Duties include but are not limited to stand, walk, twist, bend, lift, see, talk and hear, with an ability to travel. When visiting plant site locations, employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration or hazardous materials.
