Job Title: Manufacturing Drafter

Reports to: VP of Manufacturing

Location: San Marcos, Texas

About This Role

We are seeking a hands‑on Manufacturing Drafter to support our growing manufacturing operations by creating detailed technical drawings, models, and production documentation. The candidate will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure accurate and efficient part designs within a manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Transform concepts into reality by interpreting engineering sketches, concepts, and specifications to develop precise 2D drawings and 3D models for manufactured parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Deliver production‑ready documentation, including comprehensive fabrication drawings, detailed bills of materials (BOMs), and clear work instructions.
  • Apply appropriate tolerances (GD&T) to ensure all drawings comply with company standards, manufacturing capabilities, and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to support production processes, prototype development, and product improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design and production issues related to fabricated or machined parts on the shop floor.
  • Maintain version control by managing drawing revisions and engineering change notices (ECNs) within the company documentation control system.
  • Organize CAD ecosystems, maintaining strict organization of CAD files, templates, and associated technical documentation.
  • Drive AI & automation opportunities by identifying and integrating AI tools and automated macros into SolidWorks workflows to eliminate repetitive tasks and improve design speed.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, partner with the team to test, evaluate, and adopt AI drafting technologies and continuous improvement initiatives to boost overall manufacturing efficiency.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
  • Has an associate degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field (preferred).
  • Possesses 2–3 years of drafting experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Is proficient in SolidWorks for 2D and 3D drafting/modeling.
  • Can read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Has an understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, or assembly.
  • Displays a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Is able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Has strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with creating detailed drawings for sheet metal, machined parts, and complex welded assemblies.
  • Has working knowledge of GD&T to ensure flawless manufacturing and assembly fitment.
  • Familiar with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) or PDM/PLM document management software to track parts and engineering changes.
  • Background supporting production, manufacturing engineering, or prototyping teams to streamline assembly processes.
  • Acquainted with AI‑driven drafting tools, generative design features, or AI‑based QA/QC markup software.
  • Includes experience with SolidWorks macros, SolidWorks API, design automation tools (e.g., DriveWorks), or writing simple automation scripts (Python, VBA).
Work Environment
  • Able to move up to 20 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Can wear PPE.
  • Capable of making repetitive movements, including sitting, squatting, and walking up and down stairs.
