Voxel Innovations Inc. develops and manufactures precision components using Electrochemical Machining (ECM). We seek a Manufacturing Development Engineer for hands-on prototyping, process development, and experimental work to move parts from concept to production.
This full-time role based in Knightdale, NC focuses on running ECM experiments, tooling setup, and iterative process improvements while collaborating with engineers, machinists, and technicians in a fast-paced environment.
Voxel Innovations develops and manufactures precision components using Electrochemical Machining (ECM), an advanced manufacturing technology capable of shaping difficult metal alloys with exceptional precision. Our 30 person team develops the process, designs and builds the equipment and tooling, and manufactures parts for aerospace, energy, medical, industrial, and other demanding applications - all under one roof.
We are looking for a Manufacturing Development Engineer to join our team for prototyping and process development for new products. This is a highly hands‑on role for someone who likes building things, running experiments, troubleshooting equipment, and figuring out how to make complex processes work reliably.
You will execute development projects, run ECM experiments and prototype parts, and find ways to take a part from first concept to ready‑for‑production. This is a complex process involving electrical signals, power supplies, chemistry, high‑pressure pumps, motion control, 3D shaped electrodes, metrology, etc., and you will (with training) figure out how these all interact to achieve the end result.
A typical project might start with you or another engineer defining an experiment or prototype. You may inspect and prepare the tooling, assemble it into an ECM machine, precisely align the setup, configure machine parameters, run the test, monitor what happens, measure the results, and then iteratively improve the process with the engineering team.
This role requires someone who can work independently within engineering direction and who understands that small details matter. Cleanliness, alignment, organization, documentation, and seemingly minor setup differences can determine whether a precision manufacturing process succeeds or fails. Your job will be running these manufacturing experiments, understanding what works or doesn’t, and making changes to improve outcomes or identify entirely new technical approaches.
This position is full-time based in Knightdale, NC.You are detail oriented, curious, and comfortable working with experimental setups. You enjoy understanding whysomething works rather than simply following instructions. You take pride in precise work and notice details others mayoverlook. You collaborate with other engineers, ask good questions when something isn't clear, and then independentlyexecute the work. When equipment fails or results don't make sense, you investigate to understand why rather than simply work around the problem.Additionally, you take ownership and are willing to help solve whatever technical problem is keeping the team from movingforward.
