Manufacturing Design Engineer – Cabinetry & Product Development

Location: Olyphant, PA

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

Employment Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000

Bear Staffing is seeking a creative and technically skilled Manufacturing Design Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity with Open Air Outdoor Cabinetry, a family-owned American manufacturer specializing in custom indoor and outdoor cabinetry.

This software-driven position focuses on CAD design, custom product development, and manufacturing support. The Manufacturing Design Engineer will take customer concepts, measurements, and project requirements and turn them into accurate, production-ready cabinetry and countertop designs.

Once a design is complete, it will be provided to the CNC machinist and fabrication team for production. This position does not operate the CNC machinery but will work closely with the machinists and production employees to ensure each design is accurate, practical, and efficient to manufacture.

The ideal candidate understands how a digital design becomes a finished product and enjoys working in a highly customized manufacturing environment. Open Air is willing to train on its specific software and processes for someone who is technically savvy, hardworking, detail-oriented, and experienced with CAD or related design software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom cabinetry, countertops, components, and product improvements.
  • Create and revise accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models.
  • Translate customer concepts, measurements, and specifications into production-ready designs.
  • Prepare completed drawings, dimensions, specifications, and design files for CNC machinists and fabrication employees.
  • Work closely with CNC machinists to clarify measurements, materials, construction details, and production requirements.
  • Review designs for proper fit, functionality, quality, material usage, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Revise drawings and designs based on feedback from production and fabrication teams.
  • Support new product development from initial concept through production.
  • Assist with prototypes, samples, product testing, and product improvements.
  • Create and maintain product specifications, bills of materials, drawings, and revision records.
  • Troubleshoot design-related production issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Support custom cabinetry and countertop‑fabrication projects.
  • Collaborate with sales, design, fabrication, production, and leadership teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, design accuracy, material usage, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and organized product‑development and engineering documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD, technical design, product development, drafting, or a related manufacturing function.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or comparable 2D or 3D design software.
  • Ability to create and interpret detailed drawings, measurements, models, and production specifications.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new design and manufacturing software.
  • Understanding of how digital designs are translated into manufactured products.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to create customized designs with accuracy, quality, material usage, and manufacturability in mind.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with designers, CNC machinists, fabrication employees, sales teams, and leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple custom projects and changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SolidWorks.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Cabinet Vision, KCD Software, or similar cabinet‑design software.
  • Experience using Excel for measurements, calculations, specifications, or product documentation.
  • Cabinetry, countertops, millwork, furniture, plastics, HDPE, or wood‑product manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of CNC manufacturing processes.
  • Hands‑on understanding of cabinet construction or countertop fabrication.
  • Experience developing custom products or introducing new designs into production.
  • Familiarity with bills of materials and engineering‑change documentation.
  • Degree, certification, or technical training in manufacturing engineering, mechanical design, industrial design, drafting, product design, or a related field.

Equivalent hands‑on design and manufacturing experience may be considered in place of a formal degree.

Ideal Candidate Background
