Job summary

Becton, Dickinson, and Company in the United States is seeking a Manufacturing Cell Leader to own production, process and people within the designated cell. You will deliver SQDC targets and drive continuous improvement on the shop floor.

You'll lead a team on the production floor, manage budgets and headcount with Finance, and partner with Quality to reduce defects while upholding BD safety and quality standards. This role requires strong leadership and hands-on execution.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a related field (Science, Industrial management, Business, Engineering).
  • 5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment.
  • 3 years of people leading experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own production, processes and people within the manufacturing cell and achieve SQDC targets.
  • Mentor the manufacturing cell to drive results focusing on production and capability development.
  • Coordinate activities within the cell and set priorities.
  • Manage the cell budget and headcount with Finance.
  • Communicate SQDC goals and translate targets to lines/workplaces with measurable targets.
  • Lead change to meet short and long-term SQDC goals.
  • Resolve line/unit issues with servant leadership and BD values.
  • Run BD Ex Lighthouse methodology on lines/areas.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and develop each team member.

Job Description

The Manufacturing Cell Leader will have overall ownership of production, processes, and people included in the respective Manufacturing Cell and will be fully responsible to deliver upon SQDC targets, to eliminate losses in the area through BDPS and to grow the capability of the team. This role has responsibility for the designated production cell including setting goals, making decisions, and driving accountability toward department objectives in the designated Manufacturing Cell. Ensures compliance with BD quality systems with a strong execution of 5s principals, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reliable Punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values. This position also covers for the MUL during PTO.

Job Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the achievement of key strategic, Safety and operational goals.
  • Developing and mentoring the manufacturing cell to drive results by focusing on production, associate capability development and ownership.
  • Coordinates and drives all activities within the manufacturing cell and sets priorities.
  • Responsible for developing and managing the manufacturing cells budget and headcount levels working alongside our Finance Team.
  • Coordinates the establishment and communication of challenging SQDC goals. Translates manufacturing unit targets into lines / areas / workplaces and ensures that each associate understands what is expected from them Inclusive with how their area is performing with documented individual, specific and measurable targets.
  • Initiates and drives change to ensure that short and long term SQDC goals for the lines / areas under responsibility are being met.
  • Resolves issues in the line and for the manufacturing unit in a timely manner, while displaying servant leadership. Manages the team in line with BD values.
  • Runs the TMS cycle for the lines/areas and sets the 24-hour direction for the manufacturing cell, rolling out BD Ex Lighthouse methodology
  • Does yearly performance reviews of the team and ensures every individual has an active development plan in place and does regular 1:1s with each team member to review performance and help them to grow.
  • Leads AM activities being responsible for creating AM work processes (e.g., CIL, CL etc.) with a strong link into 5s
  • Facilitates BD excellence implementation within the manufacturing unit.
  • Collaborate with planning to establish production schedules, monitor delivery performance versus schedule.
  • Works with Quality to drive down targeted quality issues and ensure investigations are followed up and completed in a timely manner
  • Works with associates to resolve issues and concerns; involves HR when needed.
  • Builds his/her own mastery in the operation, people management and BD Excellence.
  • Spends more than 70% of the time on the production floor overseeing activities within the manufacturing unit.
  • Other duties as required to support the needs of the business
Requirements

Associates Degree (Science, Industrial management, Business, Engineering or a related field).

5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment required.

3 years of people leading experience required
