Job summary

SIG SAUER, Inc. is seeking a Gage Calibration Technician I to support calibration of electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring devices.

This role requires learning to use precision tools and maintaining calibration records in a manufacturing setting. As part of the team, you will assist engineers with test plans, ensure conformance to standards, and communicate effectively in English.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and inspection experience.
  • Ability to understand and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and tolerances.
  • Basic working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to use calibration software such as Gage Trak.
  • Must be able to clearly convey ideas in English, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.
  • Disassemble gages and instruments and inspect components for defects.
  • Measure parts for conformity with specifications.
  • Reassemble and calibrate gages and instruments.

  • Assist engineers in planning test, calibration, and evaluation procedures to maintain precision.
  • Communicate problems to supervision and seek solutions.
  • Support 5S workplace organization and sustainment activities.
  • May work overtime or in other facilities as needed.

Position Summary: The Gage Calibration Technician I is responsible for supporting gage calibration requirements, testing and calibrating electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment for conformance to established standards. This role is responsible for learning how to effectively use all basic precision measuring hand tools including indicators, micrometers, thread wires, height masters, and comparators in the performance of these duties.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and calibrate other instruments and test equipment.
  • Disassemble gages and instruments and inspect components for defects.
  • Measure parts for conformity with specifications.
  • Reassemble and calibrate gages and instruments.
  • Provide both efficient and accurate performance of routine mechanical gage calibrations including maintenance of calibration records.
  • Assist engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and strive to find solutions.
  • Seek and act upon ways to improve daily work processes to enhance productivity.
  • Participate in 5S Workplace activities, maintaining the area in good working order through sustainment activities.
  • Regular on-site attendance and punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
  • May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education/Experience & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum inspection experience should be equivalent to a Mechanical/Dimensional Inspector, Level 1 or greater.
  • Ability to understand and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and tolerances.
  • Basic working knowledge of GD&T is required.
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Ability to use calibration software such as Gage Trak.
  • Must be able to create a schedule, gage files, and populate gage
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, in English, both verbally and in written form.
Working Conditions:
  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
