Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer II in Scarborough, Maine to support automated manufacturing processes and drive quality improvements. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment, implement automation solutions, and ensure cGMP and FDA compliance within a regulated environment.

The role focuses on safety, efficiency, and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining rigorous documentation and CAPA processes for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with lean six sigma and DMAIC.
• Experience with change management processes.
• Robotics experience with industrial systems (Fanuc, Stäubli, Mitsubishi, Epson).
• Experience programming/troubleshooting PLC-based automation (Allen-Bradley preferred).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on specification, acquisition, installation, and implementation of manufacturing equipment and automation solutions.
• Support automation equipment upgrades related to safety, obsolescence, and continuous improvement.
• Troubleshoot and optimize automation systems, including machine logic and process controls.
• Investigate manufacturing failures using structured problem-solving and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct FMEA and evaluate equipment/process risks.
• Design and execute experiments, validation activities, testing protocols, and data analysis.
• Develop manufacturing documentation including SOPs and validation protocols.
• Support engineering projects and coordinate activities for timely execution.
• Initiate and support CAPA resolutions.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, cGMP, ISO, and quality system requirements.
