Job summary

Joyce/Dayton Corp. is seeking a Manual Machinist I to operate and maintain manual milling machines for threadmills parts. You will ensure safety, quality, and adherence to tolerances while documenting die usage and contributing to continuous improvement.

This 3rd shift role (10:48PM–7:18AM) includes a 15% shift differential and requires teamwork with schedulers and control to support customer needs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years proven machining experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills.
  • Basic blueprint reading and tolerances understanding.
  • Proven ability to work in a team and meet production goals.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual milling machines to produce threadmill parts.
  • Inspect work and hold tolerances.
  • Track and document die usage and condition.
  • Troubleshoot machines as needed and keep area clean.
  • Train new operators as required.
  • Prioritize work to maximize productivity and quality.
  • Support lean initiatives and continuous improvement.

The position must work safely and effectively while keeping high-quality standards. This is an hourly non-exempt position reporting to the Group Leader.Job DescriptionTHIS IS A 3RD SHIFT POSITION: 10:48PM-7:18AM. 15% SHIFT DIFFERENTIALEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Operate manual milling machines to produce threadmiled parts;Inspect work and hold tolerances;Understand all machining principles;Track and document die usage and evaluate die condition;Identify and communicate recommendations for product and productivity enhancements (lean initiatives);Work in a team environment with material schedulers and product control to support customer needs;Maintain compliance with company policy, safety, and good housekeeping practices;Monitor and measure products to ensure tolerance/specs adherence;Effectively train new operators as required;Prioritize work in an efficient and productive manner;Upkeep and cleanliness of machines and area;Troubleshoot machines as needed;Motivate co-workers for continuous quality improvement;Keep scrap and rework at minimal levels as defined;Additional duties as assigned;Critical Skills:Trustworthiness- We earn trust through honesty, integrity and reliability.Adaptable- We are able to maintain effectiveness in a changing environment.Approachable- We are open minded, friendly, engaging, understanding and empathetic; being comfortable engaging in challenging conversations.Curious- We improve the organization by seeking information and knowledge to continually grow and learn and reduce moments of uncertainty and ambiguity.Minimum Qualifications:Highschool Diploma or GED required.Minimum of 3 years proven experience.Sound mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated willingness and ability associated with being a self-starter.Basic blueprint reading skills.Basic product knowledge.Basic programming knowledge or experience.Basic set-up capabilities.Basic tooling knowledge.Basic understanding of feeds and speeds.Basic understanding of gearing terminology.Very minimal direction required.Overhead crane experience.Ability to read precision measuring equipment.Have your own basic tools.Capable of understanding and following routing information.Able to work closely in a teamwork environment.Able to prioritize work in an efficient and productive manner.Basic ability to monitor and measure product to ensure it’s within tolerance specifications.Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and expediter.Responsible for basic up keep and cleanliness of machines and area.Additional duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods standing.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.Time TypeFull timeJoyce/Dayton Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
