Job summary

Tiffany & Co. is seeking a Manual Machinist in Rhode Island to set up and operate Bridgeport mills, Hardinge lathes, and grinders for precision turning, boring, threading, and drilling. You will develop tooling and fixtures for short-run jobs and assist with CNC tooling for production runs.

You will read blueprints, use precision measuring tools, and collaborate with engineers to ensure tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes. Overtime may be required in this hands-on shop role.

Qualifications

  • Technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Read blueprints and sketches; interpret verbal instructions for machining.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Over-Time availability as needed; attention to detail and practical problem-solving.
  • Experience with fixture and tooling development for short runs and CNC production tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual machines including Bridgeport Mills and Hardinge Lathes.
  • Produce components to blueprint specs using measuring equipment for quality control.
  • Select tooling and cutters; troubleshoot with engineers on R&D projects.
  • Inspect first run pieces and perform spot checks on subsequent parts.

Job description

The Manual Machinist will must be able to set up and operate manual Hardinge lathes, Bridgeport milling machines and Grinders to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, knurling, slots and drilling and tapping using rotary tables and indexing heads etc. Must be capable of trouble shooting and developing fixtures and tooling for use in short run jobs and to develop tooling for CNC Production runs as well as tool grinding as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Set-up and run various machines, such as Bridgeport Mills and Hardinge Lathes, and medium-size lathes, surface grinders, and tool grinders.

Ensure all machined components produced meet Blueprint specifications by using appropriate measuring equipment, such as Micrometers, Vernier, Height Gauges, Bore Gauges, Comparators, Vision Systems, etc.

  • Must be able to select suitable tooling and cutters.
  • Must be to able Read blueprints and sketches as well as take verbal instruction to determine machining to be done,
  • Capable of Making and repairing fixtures and tooling for Production runs
  • Need to be capable of producing quality surface finishes and holding tight Tolerances.
  • Needs to be able to troubleshoot and work with engineers on various R&D projects
  • Needs to be flexible.
  • Inspect first run piece and spot check succeeding pieces for conformance specifications.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
