Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking skilled Manual Lathe Operators to join a precision-focused team in Albemarle, NC. You will read and execute process sheets, set up fixtures, and operate multiple machine types including lathes and CNCs to produce high-quality mechanical components.

Expect careful inspection of parts, strict safety practices, and collaboration with teammates to optimize production. The role requires strong math and measurement skills, reliability, and adaptability to shifting

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and comprehend English instructions and complete simple logs/reports.
  • Knowledge of fundamental machining concepts and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and wear PPE.
  • Physical capability to lift and position heavy parts.
  • Reliable and adaptable to production demands.

Responsibilities

  • Follow instructions from process sheets or blueprints to meet manufacturing specs.
  • Install machine fixtures to align dies, punches, blades, or fixtures safely.
  • Set up and operate machines such as lathes, mills, drills, presses, and CNC machines per specs.
  • Inspect operations and measure finished parts to ensure quality standards.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area and comply with safety protocols.
  • Assist in other departments as needed.

Are you ready to bring your Manual Lathe Operator skills to a team that values precision and innovation? At Martin Sprocket & Gear, we’re dedicated to producing quality mechanical power transmission components, material handling systems, and custom forgings with excellence, and we’re looking for skilled Manual Lathe Operators like you!

What You’ll Do
  • Follow production instructions and tasks from process sheets, blueprints, or verbal directions to achieve desired outcomes in the manufacturing process.
  • Install machine fixtures: align and secure dies, punches, blades, or other fixtures to ensure the machine operates safely.
  • Operate machinery: set up and operate machines such as lathes, mills, drills, presses, and CNC machines according to specifications.
  • Inspect operations: monitor the production process to ensure the machines function correctly and products meet quality standards; perform inspections and measurements of finished products using tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Adhere to cleanliness and safety protocols: follow safety guidelines, wear personal protective equipment, and use a crane or buddy system for heavy parts; keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Assist in other areas or departments as needed.
What You’ll Bring
  • Average math skills and the ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English and complete simple logs and reports.
  • Physical capability to handle, lift, push, pull, and position heavy items.
  • Compliance with company policies, including scheduled hours and timekeeping.
  • Stamina to stand for an entire shift in a non‑climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Knowledge of fundamental machining concepts and proficiency in using measuring devices.
  • Collaboration with team members, including supervisors, to optimize production processes.
  • Attention to detail for maintaining quality standards.
  • Reliability and commitment to consistent performance.
  • Adaptability to respond effectively to shifting production demands.
Your Schedule
  • Training: Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm (estimated 6 weeks).
  • 3rd Shift: Monday – Thursday 9:00 pm – 7:00 am (4‑10 hr shifts).
