Job summary

voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak is seeking a Manganese Cleaning Technician in Decatur, Illinois. The role involves grinding, air arc and welding manganese track work castings to produce high-quality results while adhering to safety and quality procedures.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, related welding/grinding experience, and the ability to read blueprints. Training toward a Tech Level 2 is provided, with strong safety culture and competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Must pass a respirator test to wear PAPR.
• Wear proper PPE for the job assignment.
• Experience in welding and grinding operations is an asset.
• Experience in Forklift and Crane operations is an asset.
• Ability to read work orders and blueprints preferred.
• Basic math: addition, subtraction, fractions & decimals.

Responsibilities

• Grind manganese track work castings using cup grinders and air arc welding.
• Produce a quality casting and follow safety and quality procedures.
• Perform tasks per training matrix and progress toward Cleaning Tech Level 2.

We are currently looking for a Manganese Cleaning Technician to join our team in Decatur, Illinois.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Reporting to the Department Supervisor, the Manganese Cleaning Technician is responsible to grind, air arc and weld manganese track work castings. The Manganese Cleaning Technician is required to produce a quality casting, work safely and perform essential job duties.

Task and Responsibilities:

• Operate a 4 ½ inch and 6 inch cup grinder.
• Capable of taking oral / written direction, in order to be trained on a job function.
• Be willing and able to perform job duties associated with training matrix.
• Work on acquiring skills, per the training matrix, to become a Cleaning Tech Level 2.
• Able to work with little supervision.
• Adhere to Nortrak’s Environmental, Safety and Quality Procedures, Practices and Policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of your required schedule shift.
• Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of your required scheduled shift.
• Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Hearing abilities necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.

Job Requirements (e.g., education, experience, skills and desired competencies)

Working Location:
