Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Managing Senior Counsel to lead the privacy legal and compliance team supporting the CVS Caremark business. You will provide strategic legal counsel on HIPAA, privacy regulations, data protection, and regulatory matters, balancing risks with business objectives.

You will identify legal risks, advise internal clients, and mentor junior privacy professionals while collaborating with other attorneys on enterprise privacy initiatives and contracting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of legal experience focused on HIPAA, privacy requirements, data protection, or related regulatory matters.
• Deep subject matter expertise of privacy laws, including HIPAA and other federal/state privacy laws.
• Experience with data governance and HIPAA data regulations, including research and de-identification.
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex privacy and data-protection agreements.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely and strategic legal counsel to internal partners on privacy and regulatory matters.
• Lead and mentor the privacy team and coordinate with cross-functional partners.
• Advise on privacy issues related to member information across CVS Caremark operations, including contracting and incident management.
• Support privacy contracting and regulatory compliance initiatives and drive risk-balanced solutions.

As a Managing Senior Counsel, you will lead the privacy legal and compliance team supporting our CVS Caremark business. Your team will be responsible for providing timely and strategic legal counsel to internal business partners with respect to Federal and state healthcare privacy regulations and laws. You will proactively advise business partners on a wide variety of matters and work collaboratively with other attorneys and partners on matters related to privacy compliance.

You will identify business and legal risks and provide solutions which balance legal issues and business objectives. As part of the Legal team, you will gain experience working with a dynamic in-house legal department and play a key role in supporting the business. This role will include managing other colleagues on the privacy team.

Advising on privacy issues related to handling member information associated with our pharmacy benefit management operations, including HIPAA counsel and incident management.

Privacy contracting, regulatory compliance, and data use.

Recommend practical and sound advice to internal clients on legal issues related to business objectives and take an active role in driving projects.

• 10+ years of legal experience with a law firm, health plan, or health care system focused on HIPAA, privacy requirements, data protection, or related regulatory matters
• ~ Deep subject matter expertise of privacy laws, including HIPAA and other federal and state privacy laws and regulations
• ~ Experience with data governance and HIPAA data regulations, including research and de-identification
• ~ Bachelor’s degree and J.D. with admission to practice law in good standing in at least one U.Experience with general health care laws and pharmacy benefit management laws and regulations
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements, including privacy and data-protection provisions
• Management experience of legal and privacy professionals
• Bachelor's Degree Required

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full‑time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
