Job summary

Job description

Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced Managing Scientist for our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice to be based in our Philadelphia, PA office. In this role you will work as part of a team to provide technical support on existing projects and business development efforts in the Biological and Ecological Sciences Practice.

You will be responsible for
  • Strategic business development and client networking with the aim of growing a broad range of science and engineering technical services related to global fate and transport of chemicals, their associated potential risks, impacts to regulatory initiatives, and assessment of sustainable strategies for products and services
  • Understanding and interpreting water resources and land-use activities, focusing on emerging chemicals and associated products, including government regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes
  • Directing and supporting the conduct of analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports
  • Synthesizing technical information and applying creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and technical presentations
  • Developing and maintaining professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences and activities of professional societies
  • Working cooperatively on projects with other members of the Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice and interdisciplinary groups from other Exponent practices as appropriate
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, or another related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 4 years of direct consulting experience
  • Expert-level knowledge of emerging chemicals, legacy contaminants and the ability to assess fate and transport of pollutants
  • Working knowledge of sustainability and management of constituents in the environment
  • Strong understanding of scientific sampling methodologies and state-of-science on a broad range of terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues
  • Proven experience with data analysis and statistics
  • Proven experience in the assessment of risk with being a board-certified risk assessor considered a plus
  • Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicate within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications
  • Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff
  • Not required but any of the following experiences would be a plus:
    • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations pertinent to water quality and related environmental sciences, including ESA, NEPA, TSCA, REACH, RCRA, CERCLA, and Clean Water Act in the U.S. and similar laws and regulations in other countries
    • Experience in addressing both proactive and litigation-related matters
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Manager level and above total compensation includes base salary, annual bonus, and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
