Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams delivering enterprise applications and services.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We are seeking a Managing Engineer to lead high-performing software engineering teams responsible for building and modernizing enterprise applications that support Allstate’s Roadside Services critical business operations. This is a hands-on leadership role that includes active Java coding and technical contribution alongside people leadership. This leader will drive technical strategy, partner with product and business stakeholders, and foster a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with deep technical expertise in modern software engineering practices. You will develop engineering talent, contribute directly to the design and development of Java-based solutions, deliver scalable and reliable applications, and help shape the technical direction of key products and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Qualifications

• Experience supporting distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and high-volume transactional applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Kubernetes-based environments.
• Knowledge of object-oriented design, domain-driven design, API-first development, and secure coding principles.
• Experience implementing automated testing strategies, infrastructure automation, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or similar platforms.
• Experience leading application modernization initiatives, including cloud migrations and monolith‑to‑microservices transformations.
• Strong understanding of application monitoring, logging, performance optimization, and reliability engineering.
• Experience partnering with cross-functional technology and business leaders to define roadmaps and deliver strategic outcomes.
• Experience within insurance, claims, financial services, warranty services, or other highly regulated industries.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 120,000.00 - 193,725.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
