Job description

A community theatre located in Versailles, Kentucky, Woodford Theatre seeks to provide a theatrical experience that inspires and educates the Bluegrass. Woodford Theatre is a community theatre that regularly produces 5 mainstage plays, 3 education plays, and educational programming.

We are looking for a Managing Development Director. This role is responsible for fundraising/development and assisting with supervising the administrative staff of Woodford Theatre. In absence of the Executive Artistic Director, this position will serve as the executive officer of the organization.The person in this role will provide managerial oversight and strategic support to Marketing, Operations, and Box Office/Guest Relations departments, respectively. This role reports directly to the Executive Artistic Director and works closely with the core staff.

FULL-TIME DAILY REPORTING
  • Mondays (work from home) 10am - 5pm
    • Typical workdays will be Tuesdays through Fridays 10am - 5pm with flexibility to work outside of these hours as needed.
  • Show Weeks: Alternating Nights & Weekends (Woodford Theatre typically has 18 weeks of shows each calendar year.
    • During a show week, MDD can expect to flex time as needed.
DUTIES
Fundraising and Development
  • Oversees a holistic development plan to secure a minimum of $270,000 in revenue annually through multiple initiatives including, but not limited to: individual giving, sponsorships, advertising, in-kind donations, corporate giving, major gift solicitation, grant applications, and fundraising events.
  • Develop and enact a strategic annual development plan that is aligned with Woodford Theatre’s financial goals and mission.
  • Work with staff to create development materials
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders, including current and potential donors and community leaders.
  • Manage a donor portfolio of individual and major gift prospects.
  • Works with the Board and staff to conceptualize and implement engagement and fundraising events.
  • Works collaboratively with staff to identify and prioritize grant opportunities; works with Finance staff to develop a grant application and reporting schedule.Manage, revise, and evaluate strategies for development initiatives regularly.
  • Lead the creation of a Case for Support and manage its relevancy.
  • Collaborates with Finance staff to ensure proper revenue tracking.
Operational Leadership
  • Liaise with the Board of Directors, partner with the Executive Artistic Director to jointly advance long-term strategic goals and healthy operation of the organization.
  • Assists with preparation for Board meetings and executive meetings.
  • Oversee day-to-day administrative, marketing, and coordinate with Box Office/Administrative Coordinator to collaborate on guest relations operations.
  • Liaise between administrative and program departments.
Support Guest Relations
  • Supports Box Office Staff to ensure the office is open during office hours to welcome guests; providing support during absences and emergencies for the Box Office.
Marketing and Communications
  • Collaborate on an annual marketing plan to increase program engagement and brand awareness, support subscription sales, diversify and grow earned revenue, and attract audiences, both new and returning.
  • Work with staff to create campaigns that support a variety of initiatives.
  • Provide support in reviewing marketing materials for brand consistency and alignment.
  • Engage with external promotional channels and build relationships (local news, newspapers and magazines, podcasts, etc.)
  • Oversee poster/postcard distribution through personal delivery or through coordination of volunteers
COMPENSATION
  • $45,000-$50,000 (annually)

    • There are opportunities for remote work with this position, up to two days per week, but also requires in-person work.
PREFERRED SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS
  • Nonprofit experience preferred including areas of development, marketing and strategic planning
  • Excellent communication skills, both in written and verbal
  • Capacity and ability for proofreading, including attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly organized and able to maintain deadlines and manage projects from start to finish
  • Experience with handling transactions and using a POS and CRM; has computer literacy
  • Experience working directly with the public and managing event logistics
  • Highly personable and collaborative. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a variety of situations, adaptable and flexible
  • Solution-focused, detail-oriented
  • Passion for assisting guests, patrons, participants, and volunteers
  • Passion about the arts and excited to be part of a dynamic team in a non-profit community theater
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work in an open office environment
  • Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and move approximately 25 pounds
  • Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Willingness to travel locally
