The ACLU of Connecticut Foundation seeks a Managing Attorney to lead our litigation program and supervise a team of staff attorneys and a legal fellow. This full-time, hybrid role requires in-person presence every Tuesday in Hartford, CT, residency in Connecticut, and the ability to manage deadlines and coordinate across departments.

Salary range is $110,000–$120,000 with comprehensive benefits. This position offers opportunities to advance civil rights advocacy in Connecticut.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in Connecticut, or eligible to be licensed here within six months of start date.
• Minimum of five years of civil litigation experience from pre-suit investigation to appeal.
• Experience supervising attorneys to produce high-quality results and guide litigation strategy.
• Experience supervising staff to plan, monitor progress, and conduct performance reviews.
• Ability to develop less-experienced attorneys in writing, discovery, and oral advocacy.
• Ability to manage areas of law outside current expertise and collaborate across teams.
• Commitment to ACLU CT values and to serving a diverse population.
• Willingness to travel within Connecticut and maintain reliable transportation.

Responsabilités

• Supervise, manage, and mentor the affiliate’s staff attorneys, legal fellows, and paralegal, including by assigning and overseeing day-to-day work
• Supervise the execution of the affiliate’s pending litigation by ensuring that deadlines are met, drafting and revising work, and preparing for major case stages
• Supervise and support staff attorneys, legal fellows, and paralegals in setting annual goals and performing reviews
• Conduct regular team and individual meetings to discuss progress, goals, and feedback, including yearly performance reviews
• Work with the legal director to ensure smooth operations of the Legal Department
• Assist other departments in understanding legal work, concepts, and litigation developments
• Collaborate with other departments in support of integrated advocacy
• Support Operations in recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new legal staff
• Occasional other duties as assigned
