Test Engineering Manager 2 – Flight Test Organization (FTO) Flight Sciences
Location: Edwards AFB, CA (100% on‑site)
Relocation assistance may be available. Travel required (10% of the time). Clearance required: Secret.
Position Summary
Lead a team of 15‑20 flight test engineers across all grade levels, providing functional homeroom support and programmatic leadership throughout flight test campaigns. The role specializes in flight sciences disciplines, including flying qualities, loads, dynamics, flutter testing, and propulsion systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multi‑grade team of flight test engineers.
- Provide functional homeroom support and programmatic leadership during flight test campaigns.
- Specialize in flight sciences disciplines such as flying qualities, loads, dynamics, flutter testing, and propulsion systems.
- Plan, execute, and report on flight tests, including test planning and test reporting.
- Manage earned value and programmatic tracking.
- Communicate complex technical issues and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to overtime, off‑shift work (nights and weekends) as required by the dynamic environment of flight testing.
Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 9 years of relevant professional/military experience, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of relevant experience, OR 5 years of related experience with a PhD in a STEM discipline.
- Experience in flight testing within the flight science disciplines.
- Experience with Earned Value Management.
- Must have an active U.S. government Secret clearance (or higher) with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period.
- U.S. Citizenship required for all positions with a government clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a U.S. Air Force Combined Test Force (CTF).
- Experience leading an aircraft operation under DCMA Instruction 8210 oversight.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical issues and solutions.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $146,600.00 – $219,800.00 (general guideline; individual offers may vary).
- Eligibility for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
- Annual bonus potential based on performance and company results.
