Job summary

A leading dermatologic association is seeking a Manager, State Society Relations in Washington, DC. This role focuses on liaising between the Academy and state dermatology societies, managing state leadership events, and fostering engagement with local members. Ideal candidates will have at least six years of experience in associations, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a strong grasp of healthcare issues. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Academy and state dermatology societies.
  • Manage state leadership efforts through various conferences and retreats.
  • Facilitate participation of Academy staff in society meetings and events.
  • Serve as staff liaison to State Society Relationships Committee.
  • Facilitate and coordinate Academy staff and leadership participation in state and local society meetings through speaking engagements, leadership retreat participation, and individualized guidance and support.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with state and local society staff and state-based Member leadership.
  • Collaborate with staff across the Academy to ensure that guidance, tools, and resources are easily implemented and can be adapted to address the unique needs of state societies.
  • Identify and develop enhanced resources to advance best practices including, state grassroots advocacy, community outreach and membership development.
  • Serve as primary initial point of contact, where appropriate, for state and local society member and staff leadership in navigating and accessing Academy resources.
  • Collaborate with Director, State Policy in the assessment and development of strategic and financial goals that relate to Advocacy and Policy and the overall Academy mission.

The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking a Manager, State Society Relations located in our Washington, DC office responsible for serving as primary liaison between the Academy and state and local dermatology societies. Develop, manage, coordinate and track impact of the Academy’s strategic relationships and collaboration with the network of state and local/regional societies. Works closely with internal departments and volunteer leaders to ensure state societies are informed, supported, and engaged in Academy initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Supports alignment of state and national advocacy priorities, particularly on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the specialty.
  • Work collaboratively across the Academy to actively identify areas of opportunity to further engage, collaborate, support, and foster bi-directional dialogue with state and local dermatology societies. As liaison across departments, facilitate the flow of bi-directional information between state and local societies and the Academy, and ensure effective integration of appropriate functions (e.g., marketing/communication, and community relations) to advance visibility of specialty.
  • Manage and coordinate state leadership efforts through the State Society President’s Summit, Executive Director Conference, Strategic Leadership Retreats, and other state, local, and regional society meetings and events as may be developed or requested. This includes developing retreat/meeting agendas and program content, securing speakers, and working cross-departmentally on meeting arrangements, marketing, content development and all other aspects of program development. Serve as staff liaison to State Society Relationships Committee.
  • Facilitate and coordinate Academy staff and leadership participation in state and local society meetings through speaking engagements, leadership retreat participation, and individualized guidance and support.
