Title and Summary Manager, Software Engineering Overview: We are seeking a results-driven Engineering Manager to lead a service group supporting our mission-critical Decision Management Platform for fraud detection. This leader will drive engineering excellence, strengthen delivery capabilities, and build a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will align engineering strategy with business priorities, develop high-performing teams, and oversee the delivery and operation of complex, scalable software solutions.

About the Role:
  • Define and execute an engineering strategy aligned with business and product objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality software on schedule and within budget.
  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, testing, release, production support, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership for Java 21 applications built with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, and RESTful web services.
  • Promote strong automated testing practices using JUnit and Mockito.
  • Champion engineering best practices across DevOps, CI/CD, observability, secure development, and agile delivery.
  • Guide build, code-quality, version-control, and deployment practices using Maven, SonarQube, Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, Habitat, and Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
  • Ensure the reliability and performance of services operating in Linux environments and using Oracle Database and GemFire Grid.
  • Strengthen production monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance management through Splunk, Dynatrace, and shell scripting.
  • Support secure application and infrastructure practices, including secrets management with HashiCorp Vault.
  • Ensure operational readiness through effective monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, performance tuning, and service-reliability practices.
  • Identify and mitigate technical, security, operational, and delivery risks across programs and initiatives.
  • Establish clear engineering goals, performance measures, and quality standards.
  • Improve engineering processes, tools, and metrics to increase delivery efficiency and product quality.
  • Build, coach, and retain high-performing engineering teams through regular feedback, career development, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Partner with Product, Operations, and Business teams to define priorities, scope, roadmaps, and delivery plans.
  • Communicate technical strategy, risks, progress, and outcomes to executive and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Represent Engineering in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resource-planning discussions.
All About You:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive software engineering and architecture experience, including people leadership responsibility for complex, mission-critical platforms.
  • Proven success delivering distributed, scalable, low-latency systems and high-volume transaction-processing applications.
  • Strong experience with Java, Spring-based services, RESTful APIs, automated testing, and service-oriented architecture.
  • Working knowledge of Java 21, JUnit, Mockito, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Maven, and SonarQube.
  • Experience with Git-based development workflows and tools such as Bitbucket.
  • Experience with Oracle Database, Linux environments, shell scripting, and distributed data technologies such as GemFire Grid.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and deployment tools, preferably Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Jenkins, and Habitat.
  • Familiarity with observability and operational tools such as Splunk and Dynatrace.
  • Understanding of secrets management and secure configuration practices using tools such as HashiCorp Vault.
  • Familiarity with Rally, Microsoft Remote Desktop, and Synapse or similar engineering and operational tools.
  • Experience in fintech, digital payments, fraud detection, authentication, or identity systems.
  • Strong understanding of application security, secure SDLC practices, PCI considerations, and compliance-driven architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with monitoring, incident management, performance tuning, operational readiness, and reliability engineering.
  • Experience leading teams through platform modernization, transformation, or large-scale technology change.
  • Strong coaching, career-development, and performance-management capabilities.
  • Ability to influence decisions and build alignment across technical, product, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Capable to translate complex technical concepts, risks, and decisions into clear, actionable plans for technical and non-technical audiences.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
