Job summary

Canadian Pacific Kansas City is seeking a Manager of Signals and Communications in Minnesota to lead a team ensuring reliable S&C systems, supervise Radio Shop personnel, and oversee yard control networks. The role includes testing, inspecting new installations, and compiling data for affidavits.

Required are a strong track record in safe planning, 3+ years railroad experience, and relevant electronics or electrical engineering education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of railroad experience.
• Valid driver''s license.
• Associates of Applied Science in Electronics and/or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is a bonus.
• Proven track record in planning, prioritizing and executing plans in a safe environment.
• Proficient knowledge of S&C equipment, signal principals, standards and regulatory requirements.
• Good computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and SAP).
• Interpersonal and leadership skills; capable of on-call operations (24x7).

Responsibilities

• Directs safety leadership and cultivates continuous improvement in workplace safety.
• Analyzes reported wrong side signal failures to prevent recurrence.
• Ensures S&C systems meet safety standards.
• Approves entry into service of new or modified S&C systems (e.g. crossings).
• Maintains up-to-date records of S&C equipment, installations and testing.
• Coordinates activities with maintenance and construction to maximize productivity.
• Coaches junior S&C employees on technical aspects.
• Distributes S&C alerts and updates with field action taken.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Are you a forward-thinking problem-solver who thrives in dynamic, field-driven settings? We're seeking a Manager of Signals and Communications to oversee and guide a team dedicated to ensuring the reliable functionality of Signals and Communications (S&C) systems, Radio Shop personnel, and classification yard control networks to optimize train and equipment movement. This role involves conducting electrical and mechanical testing on S&C equipment, inspecting and commissioning new installations or upgrades to existing systems, and gathering data needed for affidavit submissions.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Directs safety leadership and cultivates continuous improvement in workplace safety
• Participates in analysis of reported wrong side signal failures to permit proper actions to lower possibility of recurrence
• Assuresthat the safety of S&C systems meets acceptable standards
• Approves the entry into service of new or modified S&C systems (e.g. crossings)
• Maintains comprehensive, up-to-date records of S&C equipment, installations and the testing and revisions performed on them
• Coordinates activities to coincide with those of the maintenance and construction work force to maximize the overall productivity and efficiency
• Coaches junior S&C employees on technical aspects of their job as required
• Distributes S&C Alerts and updates with field action taken
• Fully use the collective bargaining agreement for effective work management

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or generalequivalency
• 3 + years of railroad experience
• Valid drivers license
• Associates of Applied Science in Electronics and/or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is a bonus
• Proven track record in planning, prioritizing and executing plans in a safe environment
• Proficient knowledge of S&C equipment, signal principals, standards and regulatory requirements
• Good computer skills (Computer-Aided Manufacturing, Excel, Powerpoint, Word and SAP)
• Interpersonal skills, in both verbal and written interactions
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Ability to support on-call operations (24x7 availability)
