Job summary

Houston First Corporation is seeking a Manager, Security & Operations to lead security programs and daily operations across HFC venues. The role involves risk mitigation, emergency preparedness, and collaboration with internal teams, clients, vendors, and public safety partners to maintain a safe environment.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of Security Event Manager experience in large venues, strong leadership, and knowledge of surveillance, access control, and OSHA standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or IAVM designation preferred.
  • 3–5 years’ experience as a Security Event Manager in a convention center, arena, hotel, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of security facilities management and incident documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day security operations and preservation of properties.
  • Coordinate emergency response and drills with internal teams and public safety partners.
  • Oversee Security Operations Center activities, alarms, access control, and video surveillance.
  • Develop security goals, policies, and budgets in line with organizational values.

Manager, Security & Operations ensures the safety, security, and well-being of all Houston First Corporation (HFC) facilities, departments, team members, guests, visitors, and contractors. This position supports the development, implementation, and oversight of security and operational best practices across HFC properties while ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and industry standards. The role also assists in the strategic planning, coordination, and execution of emergency preparedness initiatives, response protocols, and business continuity efforts to maintain a safe and secure HFC venues to promote a state-of-the-art environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists Associate Director of Security with day-to-day operations related to security, operations, and preservation of all Houston First Corporation Properties.
  • Provides oversight in collaboration with various departments across HFC to ensure daily success in assigned initiatives.
  • Serves as one of the key leaders in emergency management procedures.
  • Supports Associate Director of Security in managing operational safety programs, regulatory compliance, and maintenance of a safe and secure environment for HFC employees, guests, clients, and visitors.
  • Drafts and implements security related departmental goals, policies, procedures, and security strategies in aligning with HFC core values.
  • Provides leadership and direction to contracted supervisors, SOC personnel, security officers, and management to ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Monitors operational performance related to security systems (e.g.. Milestone for VMS, 24/7 for centralized planning and task execution, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains strong partnerships with contract security vendors, driving alignment with HFC's strategic security initiatives and operational objectives.
  • Oversee Security Operations Center activities, including alarm monitoring, dispatch operations, access control, and video surveillance systems.
  • Maintains operational readiness of security technologies and communications systems.
  • Coordinates emergency response efforts with internal departments and external public safety agencies.
  • Assists in conducting drills, tabletop exercises, and after-action reports.
  • Investigate incidents and report findings.
  • Coordinate security planning for conventions, meetings, exhibitions, and productions across HFC venues.
  • Conducts security risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assists in the development and administration of departmental budgets.
  • Evaluates security equipment, technology solutions, and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations, briefings, and operational reports as requested
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree or professional designation through IAVM, preferred.

3-5 years’ experience as a Security Event Manager in a convention center, arena, hotel, or similar environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Understand best practices for security facilities management and implement those best practices across all HFC venues.
  • Utilize Microsoft 365 Apps to complete tasks as assigned
  • Exercise sound judgment
  • Knowledge of security operations, emergency response procedures, and safety protocols
  • Familiarity with surveillance systems, access control, and alarm monitoring technologies
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general workplace safety standards
  • Understanding of facility operations, maintenance practices, and vendor coordination
  • Knowledge of incident reporting, documentation standards, and risk mitigation practices
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive during emergencies or critical incidents
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability
  • Assess risks and take proactive measures to ensure safety and operational continuity
  • Proficiency in using security systems, building management systems (BMS), and standard Microsoft Office tools
  • Conflict resolution and customer service skills to address tenant, guest, or staff concern
MISCELLANEOUS
  • May berequired to complete a variety of soft- and hard-skill assessments.
  • Candidates must be proficient in navigating Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel. This includes the ability to create, edit, and format documents; manage spreadsheets; use formulas; and organize data effectively.
