KPMG LLP, a leading global professional services firm, seeks a Manager to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in Seattle. You will lead client engagements, supervise staff, and contribute to the delivery of SALT services across compliance, advisory, planning, and controversies.

Ideal candidates have extensive multi-state tax experience, CPA/EA/JD or equivalent credentials, and a demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and work in a high-energy team environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of recent experience in multi-state tax research and advisory.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or twenty years of related work experience in tax compliance, research, or regulatory advisory for multi-state taxes.
  • CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MST or approved credential; if not possessed at hire, must obtain within one year from start date.
  • Ability to develop business and foster client relationships.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent client service to multi-state companies with SALT issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies
  • Review information presented on state sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation
  • Support multi-state companies with SALT controversies including preparing for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and at appeal meetings, and preparing protests
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding SALT questions
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members
  • Assist with the business development, management, and delivery of SALT services, and aid and oversight on large client projects

Job description

KPMG is currently seeking a Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent client service to multi-state companies with state and local tax (SALT) issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies
  • Review information presented on state sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation
  • Support multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and at appeal meetings, and preparing protests
  • Research and draft technical memoranda regarding SALT questions
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members
  • Assist with the business development, management, and delivery of SALT services, and aid and oversight on large client project engagements
Qualifications:
  • Minimum five years of recent experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or twenty years of work experience at a professional services firm or similar industry providing tax compliance, research, and/or technical or regulatory advice on multi-state issues to include sales and use, excise, severance or other types of indirect taxes for a corporate, public accounting, consulting or government entity
  • Licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MST (master’s in taxation) or a certified member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation for non-CPA eligible candidates, in addition to others on KPMG’s approved credential listing; any individual who does not possess at least one of the approved designations/credentials when their employment commences, has one year from their date of hire to obtain at least one of the approved designations/credentials; should you like to see the complete list of currently approved designations/credentials for the hiring practice/service line, your recruiter can provide you with that list
