North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is seeking a Manager of Power Risk Issues and Strategic Management to lead PRISM-driven projects and cross-functional initiatives. This role will coordinate with the ERO and external stakeholders to enhance reliability strategies and risk reporting across the bulk power system.

The candidate will report to the VP of Engineering and Standards and supervise staff, driving industry collaboration, standards development, and strategic leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business or a bachelor’s degree with emphasis on statistics, mathematics, science, or equivalent technical training.
  • 15 years of experience in power system transmission, resource planning and/or other system analysis.
  • Strong statistical, analytical, critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills. Exceptional communication skills are required.
  • Ability to facilitate groups of industry technical experts and to work effectively and closely with peers in a teamwork environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with solid integrity and ability to provide leadership and vision.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching abilities to develop those attributes to direct reports and across the ERO.
  • Management experience within a utility or other resource/transmission planning setting.
  • Thorough understanding of NERC standards and risk elements associated with Bulk Power System reliability. Strong understanding of the electric industry regulatory environment in North America. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage staff advising standards developers during the standards development process.
  • Direct and manage staff developing ERO positions on threats to BPS reliability using data analysis.
  • Lead initiatives focusing on emerging issues, risks, and uncertainties that affect or may affect reliability of electric supply and transmission.
  • Implement the Work Plan for the Reliability Issues Steering Committee (RISC) and participate in planning the Reliability Leadership Summit; lead sessions for drafting the Risk Priorities Report.
  • Drive collaboration and reporting around ERO/NERC Reliability Indicators and the Risk Registry, including necessary adjustments.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industry, regulatory, and governmental organizations involved with electric system reliability (DOE, FERC, EIA, RTOs/ISO, NARUC).
  • Lead industry stakeholder forums and working groups to optimize standard and guideline development for key ERO and industry initiatives.
  • Present progress and status of initiatives to NERC senior management and corporate governance including NERC Board of Trustees.
  • Provide technical input to the executive management team, Board of Trustees, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Speak and represent NERC at technical conferences, workshops, and industry symposiums.
  • Support internal coordination with other departments and serve as a liaison with Engineering and Standards.

Your Impact

The Manager, Power Risk Issues and Strategic Management, will lead the electric reliability organization’s efforts to optimize and prioritize projects within PRISM and across NERC. The Manager will ensure that cross-cutting initiatives will actively engage all areas of the ERO including internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of building cohesive strategies to manage existing and emerging risks to BPS reliability. The position will lead special projects that involve industry and ERO collaboration to increase efficacy of NERC standards as well as to identify voids and areas for improvement. The position also includes a high degree of industry and external outreach to leverage industry expertise to effectuate NERC goals around standards and reliability initiatives. Additionally, this role will lead industry risk initiatives and oversee NERC reporting around existing and emerging risks and will lead efforts to report on relevant industry metrics to reduce BPS risks. This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering and Standards.

Your Role
