Job Description

• Assume primary role in developing departmental systems, procedures, and policies involving purchasing, production, and material control.
• Oversee production schedules, including material procurement and manufacturing schedules.
• Monitor reports and communicate with staff to ensure sufficient materials are available to production and maintain inbound raw materials and outbound shipping schedules.
• Develop supplier relationships to ensure a continuing source vendor and work with Corporate Purchasing as a resource for supplier information and meet locally with supplier representatives.
• Devise methods and policies ensuring the most efficient and economical movement of all materials in and out of the plant.
• Follow Quality procedures to effect change through procedures, work instructions, and training.
• Take necessary actions to eliminate delays to ensure adherence to production and shipping schedules; create workflow changes as necessary on an ongoing basis for prevention of timing issues.
• Communicate all changes to staff members to ensure engagement and comprehension.
• Direct the usage of material to produce the product taking into consideration numerous variables.
• Assess and anticipate material trends and usage based on initial information for new and ongoing programs.
• Develop systems and programs to ensure effectiveness of the department within quality guidelines and formats.
• Participate in annual budget forecasts and report costs for material and labor within the Material Group to the Plant Manager as necessary.
• Oversee prompt shipment schedules to ensure customer requirements are met using available resources/tools, developing assessments and metrics for ongoing performance.
• Analyze future customer demand to identify manpower, tooling and equipment needs.
• Coordinate physical inventories and entry of the same in accordance with established processes.
• Evaluate and report significant inventory variance, identify root cause and corrective action for inventory discrepancies.
• Promote a safe work environment and prevent injuries using 5S, job rotation, and ergonomic work practices.
• Conduct safety auditing, track audit closure, participate in incident reviews, assist in the 8D process, and aid in corrective action closure; communicate safety information as necessary and participate in safety meetings and activities.

Qualifications

• Ability to work additional hours and/or overtime as needed or assigned.
• Ability to multitask, interact politely and professionally with customers, suppliers and vendors, and work cooperatively with employees at all levels.
• Ability to maintain predictable and regular attendance, arriving at the designated location on time or being ready to work at the assignment (plant, corporate office, or remote).
• 7–10 Minimum Years of Experience within the field.
• 3–5 Minimum Years of Experience within the automotive industry.
• Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial manufacturing plants that may require climbing, lifting or working in confined spaces.
• Previous experience in material planning/purchasing; additional buyer experience in repetitive, just‑in‑time manufacturing is beneficial.
• Expertise in use of MRP systems.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel and email.
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
• Ability to process time‑sensitive information and orders to meet deadlines.
• Ability to accurately communicate to co‑workers and management.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Previous management experience.
