Primary Purpose Of This Position
Plant Human Resources Manager – manages the plant human resources function as directed.
What will you be responsible for?
- Maintain a safe and secure work environment, correct unsafe acts/conditions, facilitate monthly safety meetings, perform monthly safety inspections, and investigate accidents as required.
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the food safety system.
- Provide administration and supervision of the plant human resources function as directed.
- Create and maintain plant personnel policies and procedures in accordance with plant, group, and corporate guidelines.
- Administer wage, salary, and benefit programs in the plant in accordance with group and corporate policies.
- Ensure plant staffing needs are met by managing succession planning, recruiting, selection, and placement of candidates for plant positions.
- Ensure completion of all pre‑employment requirements such as interviews, physical examinations, drug tests, background checks, and reference checks in a timely manner.
- Implement employment practices and procedures in compliance with governmental regulations and laws regarding fair employment practices, EEOC, ADA, Civil Rights Act, and affirmative action plans.
- Oversee workers’ compensation investigations, information, and programs.
- Coordinate training programs and track results.
- Maintain plant personnel functions and records including promotions, merit reviews, disciplinary actions, and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Maintain effective new employee orientation programs.
- Develop programs in all areas of employee relations to maintain a climate of trust and confidence that will discourage third‑party interference.
- Develop and monitor plant safety rules and regulations in accordance with plant, group, and corporate guidelines and comply with occupational safety and health regulations. May arrange and administer plant safety programs to maintain safe and healthful working conditions.
- Identify, develop and implement human resource processes to ensure operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
- Administer the collective bargaining agreement and address union related issues, i.e., grievance resolution and arbitration.
- Prepare for and participate in collective bargaining.
- Maintain positive relations with union officials.
- Access, input, and retrieve information from the computer.
- Initiate, review, master, and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility.
- Coordinate and commit resources for all emergency response measures, including those identified in the facility’s contingency plan. Maintain familiarity with all aspects of the facility’s contingency plan, operations, activities, waste locations, records, and layout.
- Effectively communicate with federal, state, and local authorities as required; advise the EM or EFP on all environmental management activities.
- Establish and maintain an employee relations climate of trust and confidence that discourages third‑party interference.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships within the department, division, group, and company, and handle stress and interpersonal conflicts positively.
- Work a regular cycle of 5 days on (Monday‑Friday) with potential weekends, overtime, or on‑call duties as directed.
- Perform administrative activities necessary for effective management, including selection, development, salary administration, budget administration, employee safety, counseling, motivation, planning, organizing, integration, and performance measurement.
- Maintain awareness of and comply with hazardous waste management and other environmental requirements through scheduled training.
- Communicate with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities.
- Respond to EC directions during emergencies by familiarizing with procedures, equipment, and systems; implement the contingency plan as required.
- Complete and maintain environmental documentation such as inspections, labeling, record keeping, and equipment maintenance; report status to EC, EFP, or EM.
- Comply with job safety practices, policies, and procedures specified in plant and corporate directives.
- Recognize waste streams and minimize waste generation through prudent use of materials, proper disposal, and segregation; store wastes appropriately.
- Comply with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non‑hazardous materials and waste.
What are we looking for?
- Broad training in a related field, typically from college or work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of job‑related experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing HR operations within a unionized environment, including collective bargaining agreements and labor relations. (Preferred)
- Ability to adapt and modify standard HR techniques, procedures, and criteria as needed.
- Ability to handle sensitive proprietary information in a confidential manner.
- Will perform assignments as directed by management.
- Negotiation skills with contractors for facilities services.
- Maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills.
- Working knowledge of employee relations, HR management, industrial relations, business practices, HR legal practices, labor relations, and management procedures.
- Follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in Ball Corporation manuals.
- Work in both office and manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to occupational hazards such as high noise levels, physical obstacles, chemicals, etc.
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected Hiring Salary Range: $98,900 – $141,330 (salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and market data).
