Apellis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is seeking a field-based Patient Engagement professional to educate and support patients and caregivers, build community relationships, and partner with marketing and field teams across the US.
This role emphasizes educating patients in rare diseases, coordinating with advocacy groups, and delivering unbranded and branded patient programming while ensuring regulatory adherence.

Community Building and Education: The Patient Engagement team is accountable for introducing Biogen to the rare disease community and building trust in the company, its science, and the product. They represent Biogen within the communities, providing education and support for patients and caregivers. They build strong connections with key stakeholders in their area, both external and internal. In addition to establishing relationships with local patients and caregivers, they interact with local advocacy representatives and HCPs in support of PNH and C3G/IC-MPGN patient/caregiver communities. They work synergistically with the sales and patient services teams aligned to their region and ensure full alignment with the Patient Advocacy team on all advocacy-related topics.
Building key relationships: This is also a role that is responsible for building relationships with and gaining feedback from contracted patients. They are responsible for recruiting, contracting, and managing relationships as well as facilitating content creation with internal patient groups such as the Community Insights Group (CIG) and Patient Ambassadors for Hematology and/or Nephrology. They work with contracted patients to help them share their story and create content that supports the educational needs of the patient communities. They also coordinate and support contracted patients to share their story at both HCP and patient programs, including at HCP congresses, both virtual and live.
Marketing partnership: This role will also be responsible for executing key marketing initiatives relative to the patient experience and will work closely with the US Marketing team to ensure initiatives are closely tied to the brand strategy by supporting brand planning and Patient Advisory Boards. This role requires cross functional collaboration across multiple internal functional areas to develop and execute the operational plan and tactics related to patient engagement. They partner with the Marketing teams to develop, promote, and present both branded and unbranded programming for patient communities and to share patient stories and content that is created though partnership with our contracted patients.
This role is critical in helping us understand the dynamics of the rare disease community, obtaining insights that help advance educational offerings from Biogen, and will ultimately help build advocacy among the patient communities. Base salary for this role will consider multiple factors, including but not limited to, candidate qualifications, relevant expertise, specialized skills, and industry experience in complement-targeted therapies. The targeted base salary range for this position is $117,000-$170,000. This range represents the base salary only and reflects Apellis' commitment to competitive compensation within the biopharmaceutical industry. The final salary offered may vary based on individual qualifications, business needs, and current market conditions.
