Job description

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

Job Summary: Responsible for maintaining a quality fitness center with fully functional equipment and a well-trained, communicative staff. Help members improve their health and fitness levels and feel good about themselves through advice, demonstrations, casual conversations, and special programs to keep member motivation.

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives
  • Supervises the fitness floor and offers advice to people who may be doing exercises incorrectly.
  • Oversees the care of the fitness areas, including inspecting the equipment, making sure the proper preventative maintenance for equipment is addressed, replacing and updating equipment, as needed, and verifying the fitness area is clean, well-maintained, and safe for the users.
  • Monitors certifications and training of fitness staff; provides timely evaluations of all employees supervised.
  • Creates new programs and specialty classes for specific populations.
  • Markets and promotes program and track results of participants, revenue, feedback, etc.
  • Participates in developing annual business plan and financial targets.
  • Processes point of sale purchases as needed.
  • Knows all that is offered at the club and be prepared to tell members and potential members about the programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, fitness, health, kinesiology, or related field. Three (3) years’ experience in a health fitness center or related area. American Heart Association or American Red Cross AED/Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certified.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of ACSM guidelines and protocols, fitness equipment, anatomy/physiology, emergency procedures. Skilled in interpersonal relationships, monitoring member responses, assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands and operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

Working Conditions: Occasionally may be exposed to infectious diseases.

Physical Requirements: Constantly walk, see/visual acuity, talk/hear, lift/carry 1 to 25 lbs. Frequently stand, sit, reach, push/pull, handle/grasp/feel, bend/twist, lift/carry 25 to 49 lbs. Occasionally lift/carry 50 lbs.
