What We Do

The Fleet Robotics team is part of our Hardware Engineering organization and is responsible for designing, launching and sustaining the mobile 4‑wheeled robotic platforms that power Symbotic’s warehouse automation system. The team develops next‑generation robotic hardware while improving current production products for quality, cost and performance, and partners closely with Electrical, Software, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Field Operations teams to deliver robust robotic systems at scale.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the mechanical engineering manager responsible for the mobile 4‑wheeled robot product lines, owning hardware from concept, release, production ramp and sustaining through end‑of‑life.
  • Drive the development of mechanical assemblies, including structural frames, drive systems, electromechanical packaging and supporting hardware components.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers, support production builds, troubleshoot defects and resolve quality escapes through RCCA methods.
  • Ensure project plans and delivery commitments are met on‑time.
  • Coach, mentor and lead a diverse group of 5‑10 engineers, helping them grow technically and professionally.
  • Promote and instill best practices in mechanical engineering development and production field issue problem solving.
  • Help attract and develop top‑tier talent through recruitment activities and workforce development.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering experience, including at least 2 years management experience focused on robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace or electromechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, plus experience with PDM/PLM systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting contract manufacturers, including DFM reviews, ECNs and production issue resolution.
  • Excellent cross‑functional communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with suppliers, manufacturers and internal engineering teams.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% (field site visits).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with mobile robots, AGV, AMR or warehouse automation systems.
  • Familiarity with PPAP, FMEA and quality systems in high‑volume manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with structural or thermal FEA using ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • Hands‑on experience designing jigs, fixtures, tooling or manufacturing support equipment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups and manufacturing methods such as sheet metal, machining, injection molding and die casting.
  • Exposure to field service troubleshooting, sustaining engineering or post‑launch product support.
Benefits

The base range for this position in the posted location is $125,000.00 – $171,600.00. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
