Job summary

Scotiabank in Dallas seeks a US Operational Risk professional to implement and run the ORM framework, including RCSAs, KRIs, and risk reporting for Non-Financial Risk. You will support remediation, escalation, and ongoing risk monitoring across the U.S. organization.

Qualified candidates have 2+ years in enterprise risk at financial institutions, knowledge of capital markets, and strong communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in business is required; coding is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in enterprise risk, reporting or risk role at a financial institution.
  • Working knowledge of Capital Markets and current regulatory environment in the Financial Services industry.
  • Experience with Corporate and Investment Banking, Global Transaction Banking, Global Banking and Markets products, and related Corporate/Support Functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong communications, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Strong knowledge in MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other related productivity tools; ability to code/script is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbal and written with all levels including business units, Corporate Functions, Internal Auditors, management, and regulators.
  • A strong team player who is open to listening and learning, demonstrating a growth mindset.
  • Ability to work independently within minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting Operational Risk on a monthly basis as part of the second line of defense in the U.S.
  • Assist in automation of manual reporting where possible (e.g., KRI management).
  • Support timely escalation of review findings and remediation status reporting to senior management.
  • Assist ORM activities: New Initiatives assessment, KRIs, Issue and Action plan management, Risk Assessments, Scenario Analysis, and reporting of key outcomes.
  • Support divisional and functional coverage, including operational risk activities over Business Lines and Corporate and Support Functions.
  • Assist the Director with special projects, continuous improvement initiatives and ad hoc reporting.
  • As the function evolves, scope may expand to include other ORM activities.

Purpose

The candidate will be responsible for implementing and ongoing execution of the U.S. Operational Risk Management Framework. The framework encompasses the key components of Enterprise Risk Management, including, but not limited to, Risk and Control Self Assessments (“RCSAs”), Risk identification, Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators (“KRIs”) and ongoing reporting and monitoring.

What You'll Do
  • As a member of the second line of defense for Non-Financial Risk in the U.S., the candidate will be responsible for Reporting Operational Risk and covering second line of defense responsibilities in collaboration with the team's Senior Managers and Director.
  • Monthly Non-Financial Risk Reporting.
  • Automation of manual reporting where possible, e.g., KRI management.
  • Provide support for the timely escalation of review findings and reporting on status of remediation. This includes accountability of reporting to senior management, committees on Operational and Data Risks.
  • Support the team in executing ORM activities such as New Initiatives assessment, KRIs, Issue and Action plan management, Risk Assessments, Scenario Analysis, and Operational Risk Events and reporting key outcomes.
  • Support the team with Divisional and Functional coverage, including operational risk activities over Business Lines and Corporate and Support Functions.
  • Support the Director with special projects, continuous improvement initiatives and adhoc reporting.
  • As the function evolves, the scope may expand to include other activities under the Operational Risk department.
What You'll Bring
