Job description

Cirrascale Cloud Services provides high-performance cloud infrastructure purpose-built for deep learning, generative AI, and large-scale AI inference workloads. We specialize in dedicated GPU cloud solutions tailored to the unique needs of startups, research labs, and enterprise AI teams. Our mission is to accelerate AI innovation by combining powerful hardware with white-glove service and flexible, custom-built environments.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Manager, Network Engineering to lead Cirrascale's network engineering team. This is a player-coach role: you will manage and develop a small team of senior network engineers while remaining deeply involved in technical design and execution. You and your team own the design, operation, and optimization of Cirrascale's SD-WAN, multi-homed internet edge, and cloud interconnect infrastructure, ensuring SLA-backed connectivity across data centers, cloud, and customer environments. Partnering with the VP of Engineering, you will set the team's technical direction, drive execution, and serve as the primary escalation point; including for the InfiniBand fabrics that support our AI and HPC workloads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, coach, and develop a small team of network engineers, including regular 1:1s, performance management, and career development planning.
  • Own hiring, onboarding, and growth of the team as network scale demands.
  • Translate the engineering roadmap into team goals, priorities, and execution plans; delegate work and remove blockers.
  • Establish and manage the team's on-call rotation, escalation paths, and operational rigor.
  • Own relationships with upstream providers, peering partners, and key network vendors, including escalations.
Hands-On Technical Ownership
  • Own the architecture and operation of the company's internet edge, including ASN management, peering strategy, and global routing policy.
  • Design, configure, and maintain SD-WAN, LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall, and switching/routing environments.
  • Oversee deployment and support of InfiniBand fabrics for GPU cluster infrastructure.
  • Drive implementation of network telemetry and BGP monitoring to proactively detect routing anomalies, traffic shifts, and DDoS conditions.
  • Ensure network performance, reliability, and uptime through monitoring and escalation-level troubleshooting.
  • Lead incident response for network edge events and ensure postmortems with actionable remediation plans.
  • Support the buildout of new infrastructure within our GPU cloud platform.
  • Represent the networking team cross-functionally with Engineering and Platform teams to align networking with infrastructure needs.
  • Set standards for network documentation including topologies, IP allocations, and configurations.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and network optimizations.
  • Oversee data center migrations and bringups, hardware upgrades, and capacity planning.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience in network engineering or related infrastructure roles.
  • 2+ years managing or formally leading a team of engineers (people management, team lead, or acting manager capacity).
  • Experience hiring, coaching and performance-management of technical staff.
  • Ability to balance people management duties with hands-on technical work.
  • Ability to participate in the team's on-call rotation as an escalation point, with occasional after-hours support.
  • Designed, operated, and scaled resilient multi-homed internet edge architectures supporting >10Gbps sustained throughput, including routing policy design, peering strategy (IXPs), inbound/outbound traffic engineering, validated failover procedures to meet SLA-backed uptime targets, and advanced eBGP policy implementation (route filtering, community manipulation, local-pref/MED tuning, AS-path prepending).
  • Built high-availability edge designs utilizing redundant firewalls (active/passive or active/active), state synchronization, load balancing, and fast failure detection mechanisms (e.g., BFD).
  • Experience implementing DDoS mitigation strategies, RTBH, or integration with scrubbing providers is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing and operating hybrid cloud interconnects and customer connectivity solutions including private interconnects, cross-connects, and IPsec/GRE tunnels.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, ECMP, VLANs, and other Layer 2/3 technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise switches, routers, and firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Arista, SONiC, Fortinet).
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus/Grafana, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience automating network configuration, validation, and change management using Ansible, Python, or similar tools in production environments.
  • Understanding of cloud and virtualization concepts (OpenStack, VMware, k8s, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent experience.
  • Exposure to HPC, data center networking, SD-WAN and InfiniBand.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup or cloud service provider environment.
