This role supports OSHA compliance, ensures trainers are certified, and coordinates risk assessments in collaboration with members. The ideal candidate has a journeyman lineworker background, 7 years of experience in safety and 3 years in management or safety leadership, and is prepared for travel

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; 2-year safety-related degree preferred; a minimum of 5 years’ experience with safety programs and previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience with electric utility safety (OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC) required; a qualified journeyman lineworker with 7 years experience and 3 years in management or safety.
  • Previous experience with municipal electric systems is desired.
  • CSP or LSP is preferred.
  • OSHA 500 level Outreach Instructor desired or the ability to obtain certification within 36 months.
  • Must be a certified CPR, First Aid, Forklift Operator and Flagger instructor, or obtain certification within 12 months.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with trainees, employee’s management and elected officials.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to effectively utilize word processing software.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs. must on occasion lift equipment that weighs 200 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel 30% of the time within the organization’s footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, conducts, and evaluates member related safety training and meetings with an emphasis on the lineworker trade on a routine basis.
  • Assists in creating content (lesson plans) and organizing Lineworker Training (apprenticeship, refresher and associated regional meetings), regional Safety/ OSHA meetings, safety seminars, schedules and provides resource material for safety meetings geared toward municipal electrical safety (lineworkers and others).
  • Coordinates and schedules work directly with members in a manner representative of AMP’s mission, vision and values statements while providing excellent customer service.
  • At the request of the members, conducts accident investigations, prepares reports and assists with OSHA inspections/investigations. Identifies workplace hazards through safety inspections, review of accident reports and first reports of injury, creates Health and Safety Plans for the member’s use, and develops associated “Written Safety Plans” and manuals.
  • Maintain knowledge on current safety/PERRP/OSHA topics, rules, and regulations as well as the rules and regulations in the American Public Power Association’s safety manual.
  • Ability to assist on a limited basis with hands-on distribution level (15kV or less) operations and maintenance work (field based). Ability to work from a bucket is required; ability to climb is preferred.

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of remote work and in-office reporting) with the coordination and approval of the appropriate supervisor. This position will report out of Columbus, OH.

A qualified journeyman lineworker with 7 years of experience and three (3) years of management or safety related experience is required.
