Job summary

Secretariat Advisors LLC in New Orleans is seeking an experienced engineer to join our Global Engineering and Scientific consulting team. You will tackle complex engineering challenges, conducting failure analysis and field inspections across various industries including automotive and medical devices.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant MS with significant consulting experience. Excellent communication and analytical skills are essential, along with a desire to grow professionally in a diverse workplace.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
  • MS degree with 5+ years of prior experience in engineering consulting is acceptable.
  • Strong expert report writing skills and ability to handle complex problems.

As part of our expanding Global Engineering and Scientific consulting team, you will work at the forefront of today’s most complex engineering challenges, analyzing failures of products across industries such as power plants, oil & gas, chemical processing, construction, automotive, consumer products, electronics, and medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands‑on failure analysis investigations
  • Plan and execute laboratory tests
  • Conduct field inspections
  • Communicate with clients and counsel
  • Assist with the preparation of critique reports examining conclusions of other experts
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports
  • Develop positive relationships with colleagues, peers, and clients
  • Prepare for and attend hearings, trials, and mediations
  • Manage day‑to‑day requirements of multiple engagements

Qualifications

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or a MS degree with 5+ years of prior experience in engineering consulting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Specialized knowledge of materials characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, XPS, Auger, SIMS, FTIR, X‑ray
  • Strong expert report writing skills to complement analytics
  • Ability to quickly assimilate relevant information in unfamiliar situations and develop creative approaches and solutions to resolve complex problems
  • Strong time‑management and prioritization skills, managing competing deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Excellent listening, verbal, written, technical, and presentation skills
  • Desire to lead auxiliary tasks within a growing practice
  • Ability to travel as needed
