Job Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) is seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager to build a dynamic local marketing function and help shape and grow a team for a nationally recognized brand. This is an opportunity to shape how BBBSI tells its story, grows its visibility, engages supporters, and inspires more people to invest in and become part of our mission.

Reporting to the Vice President of Advancement, the Manager will lead the day‑to‑day marketing and communications function, supporting fundraising, volunteer recruitment, donor engagement, programs, events, and brand awareness. This hands‑on role combines strategy, storytelling, content creation, project management, cross‑departmental collaboration, and oversight of external creative and communications partners.

We are looking for a creative, proactive marketer who wants to build, innovate, and make an impact, with a strong connection to the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey community preferred.

Job Responsibilities

Digital Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and execute integrated digital campaigns that support fundraising, donor engagement, volunteer recruitment, programs, events, and brand awareness.

  • Manage email marketing, including campaign planning, audience segmentation, content development, scheduling, testing, and performance review.

  • Manage website content and day‑to‑day updates, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external web partners to ensure content is accurate, accessible, engaging, and on brand.

  • Monitor and optimize website and campaign landing‑page performance, including SEO, SEM, Google Analytics, and other applicable analytics tools.

  • Use available digital and audience data to evaluate performance, strengthen engagement, and improve future campaigns.

Social Media & Storytelling

  • Develop and manage BBBSI’s social media strategy, editorial calendar, and day‑to‑day presence across priority platforms.

  • Create and curate compelling content that highlights BBBSI’s youth, families, volunteers, donors, partners, programs, and impact.

  • Coordinate photography, video, and multimedia projects, including identifying content needs, developing creative briefs, coordinating vendors and shoots, securing appropriate permissions, and managing completed assets.

  • Monitor audience engagement and channel performance and recommend opportunities to strengthen reach and results.

  • Plan and coordinate digital advertising and paid campaigns, where appropriate, including Google Ads and Google Ad Grants.

Marketing Strategy & Team Development

  • Help build and evolve BBBSI’s local marketing and communications function, establishing scalable processes, workflows, and resources to support the organization’s growing needs.

  • Contribute to the development of the marketing function over time, identifying opportunities to expand team capacity, strengthen capabilities, and maximize the impact of internal and external resources.

External Communications & Brand

  • Serve as BBBSI’s day‑to‑day brand steward, ensuring consistent messaging, voice, visual identity, and use of national and local brand standards.

  • Develop communications and marketing materials supporting fundraising, volunteer recruitment, programs, partnerships, signature events, and other agency priorities.

  • Coordinate with external creative, graphic design, photography, videography, web, public relations, and other marketing partners as needed. Develop clear briefs, manage timelines, review deliverables, and ensure the quality and brand alignment of externally produced work.

  • Coordinate with external public relations and media partners, when applicable, and serve as the internal point of contact for media opportunities and requests.

  • Participate in select BBBSI signature events and priority community activities to support event communications, content capture, media coordination, and organizational visibility. Some evening and weekend participation will be required.

Internal Communications & Collaboration

  • Partner with Advancement, Program, Volunteer Recruitment, and other departments to identify communications needs, establish priorities, and develop clear, audience‑focused messaging.

  • Manage marketing requests, project timelines, campaign calendars, and workflows, communicating priorities and expectations to internal partners.

  • Support internal communications that keep staff informed of important agency priorities, initiatives, programs, events, and key messages.
