McLaren Health Care is seeking an experienced Laboratory Director to provide overall technical direction and administration for laboratory personnel across its system.
The role ensures diagnostic testing meets hospital, system, and regulatory standards, while coordinating services with other medical functions and reporting to the system director of laboratory.
The McLaren system includes 12 hospitals across the state, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging centers, a 730-member employed primary and specialty care physician network, commercial and Medicaid HMOs covering more than 242,000 Michigan lives, home health, infusion and hospice providers, pharmacy services, a clinical laboratory network, and a wholly owned medical malpractice insurance company. McLaren operates Michigan’s largest network of cancer centers and providers, anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. Provides overall technical direction and administration to laboratory personnel, ensuring system of laboratory testing operates efficiently and effectively.Regularly reviews and revises, as necessary, laboratory standards and ensures diagnostic procedures performed comply with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.Coordinates provision of laboratory services with other medical functions and serves as technical resource for departmental personnel. Meets and consults with system director of laboratory for policies, procedures, forms, instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and LIS to promote standardization across the system.
1.Plans and administers directly, and through subordinate supervisory personnel, the effective management and delivery of diagnostic laboratory procedures in accordance with all hospital, system and regulatory agency standards.
2.Ensures quality, financial, and customer service objectives are met.
3. Develops, secures approval of and administers capital and operating budgets in order to meet agreed-upon departmental goals and objectives.Develops and implements appropriate methods to monitor adherence to budgets and resolve variances.
4. Serves as technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
5.Reviews and approves recommendations for department equipment modifications, new supplies, and minor equipment purchases.
6.Recommends and secures approval of major capital expense items initiating bidding process with vendors and upon approval, warding bids.
