POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager, International Affairs supports the company’s international affairs and geopolitical-risk agenda by monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting political, regulatory, economic, and policy developments that may affect the LNG business. The Manager moves beyond describing what is happening externally: the role evaluates why a development matters to the company and helps translate it into practical implications for markets, customers, contracts, projects, reputation, and business strategy.

Working closely with the VP, the Manager combines rigorous research and analysis with external engagement and execution. The role partners with commercial, legal, regulatory, communications, and strategy and develop relationships with policymakers, diplomatic representatives, think tanks, trade associations, industry organizations, and other external stakeholders.

Success in this role means senior leaders and business teams receive timely, accurate, commercially relevant international intelligence and the company is better prepared to respond to risks and capitalize on opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Monitor and analyze international political, regulatory, trade, sanctions, energy-security, and climate-policy developments relevant to LNG.
  Prepare concise assessments that explain the potential business impact of international developments and identify recommended actions or issues requiring executive attention.
• Support international government-affairs and stakeholder-engagement strategies in priority markets.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with government officials, diplomatic missions, think tanks, trade associations, industry organizations, and other external stakeholders.
• Support the company’s participation in trade associations, think-tank programs, working groups, committees, conferences, and coalitions.
• Prepare briefing books, talking points, stakeholder profiles, issue papers, meeting summaries, and executive background materials.
• Support engagement with foreign governments, U.S. government agencies, diplomatic missions, and external organizations.
• Partner with commercial and business-development teams to identify how political and regulatory developments could affect market entry, customers, contracting, project opportunities, and competitive positioning.
• Track European regulatory developments and support assessment of their implications for LNG customers, contracts, supply chains, and corporate positioning.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:

• Working knowledge of international political, economic, geopolitical, and energy-security issues relevant to energy markets.
• Working knowledge of the LNG value chain and major global LNG-producing and consuming markets.
• Understanding of U.S. foreign policy, international trade, sanctions, energy security, and government institutions relevant to the energy sector.
• Working knowledge of European Union institutions and energy and climate policy.
• Familiarity with the EU Methane Regulation, including its implications for LNG importers/exporters, methane measurement/reporting/verification, methane intensity, and supply-chain information.
• Understanding of how political and regulatory developments can affect commercial strategy, market access, contracting, project development, and reputation.
• Ability to quickly research and develop informed assessments of unfamiliar policies and regulatory issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, economics, public policy, business, law, energy policy, or related field. Master’s degree or other advanced degree preferred.

Experience

• Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible experience in international affairs, government affairs, public policy, foreign policy, geopolitical risk, energy policy, international business, or related fields.
• Energy-sector experience preferred; LNG, natural gas, energy trading, infrastructure, or other relevant energy experience is a strong plus.
• Experience researching and analyzing international political or regulatory developments and communicating their implications to business leaders.
• Experience preparing executive-level briefing materials, policy analyses, stakeholder assessments, or recommendations.
• Experience interacting with government officials, regulators, diplomatic representatives, think tanks, trade associations, industry organizations, or other external stakeholders.
• Experience supporting or managing relationships with external organizations, including trade associations, think tanks, working groups, and industry coalitions.
• Experience working cross-functionally with commercial, legal, regulatory, sustainability, communications, strategy, or business-development teams.
• International work, study, or professional experience strongly preferred.
