Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a senior engineer to lead the design and delivery of large-scale safety and content quality systems. You will mentor engineers, drive cross-functional roadmaps, and push for high-impact projects across product, design, data science and other teams.

You will leverage AI to accelerate execution, improve quality, and contribute to our culture of innovation while ensuring data integrity and responsible AI use.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and shipping large-scale software in a product-driven environment.
• 2+ years as Engineering Manager with coaching and team development.
• Experience leading design of complex, high-performance distributed systems and microservices.
• Proven track record delivering projects with multiple dependencies and stakeholders.
• Experience with big data processing frameworks (Spark, Kafka, Flink) and building data pipelines.
• Domain experience in building Trust and Safety systems at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to use AI to improve speed and quality in your day-to-day workflow.
• High integrity and ownership: protect sensitive data, avoid over-reliance on AI, and be accountable for final deliverables.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

The Trust Engineering - Real-Time Risk Systems team at Pinterest is responsible for ensuring that Pinners have a safe and engaging experience using Pinterest. Our platform is used by ML teams and Data Analysts to process billions of events everyday. The role involves working with leadership to shape the future roadmap of our systems and directly supporting the careers of ICs on the team through mentorship.

What you’ll do:

• Design and develop highly scalable, reliable and performant software systems to power content quality and safety infrastructure at Pinterest
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to other engineers on the team
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, data science and other engineering teams to define roadmaps and deliver high-impact projects
• Drive engineering best practices and processes to continuously improve software quality, reliability and developer productivity
• Actively contribute to Pinterest's technical culture through code reviews, tech talks, open source projects and recruiting
• Leverage AI to seek faster execution (i.e. draft, prototype, outline) and explore alternative options (i.e. iterate, compare approaches)
• Leverage AI to synthesize information (summarize, distill themes) and automate repeatable tasks (documentation, reporting, QA checks)

What we’re looking for:

• 10+ years of experience building and shipping large-scale software systems in a product-driven environment
• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, and a demonstrated commitment to coaching, developing, and enabling senior engineers
• Experience leading the design and development of complex, high-performance distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Proven track record of technical leadership and successfully delivering projects with multiple dependencies and stakeholders
• Experience with big data processing frameworks (e.g. Spark, Kafka, Flink) and building data pipelines
• Domain experience in building Trust and Safety systems at scale
• Demonstrated ability to use AI to improve speed and quality in your day-to-day workflow for relevant outputs.
• Strong track record of critical evaluation and verification of AI-assisted work (e.g., testing, source-checking, data validation, peer review).
• High integrity and ownership: you protect sensitive data, avoid over-reliance on AI, and remain accountable for final decisions and deliverables.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, or equivalent experience
