Job summary

LyondellBasell is seeking a leader to direct Health, Safety, Environmental and Security programs for our Clinton, IA site. In this role you will guide the HSE team, drive performance, and ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements while partnering with corporate networks.

As a member of the Clinton Leadership Team, you will coach safety professionals, develop KPIs, and champion continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or related sciences.
  • Minimum 6 years of chemical plant or refinery operations experience.
  • Knowledge of regulatory processes for plant operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in health, safety, and environmental management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HSE function to improve programs and performance.
  • Establish KPIs to measure HSE performance.
  • Ensure HSE programs comply with regulations and standards.
  • Develop cost-effective HSE strategies aligned with operations.

This position is responsible for the direction of the company's Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) and Security programs and policies for the chemical and polymer manufacturing site located in Clinton, IA. The position is also responsible for compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations: local, state and federal. As part of the Clinton Leadership Team, this position provides guidance, direction and coaching to safety and environmental professionals and specialists responsible for the delivery of HSE processes and policies at the Clinton site and as part of relevant corporate networks and teams. The individual serving in this capacity will act as the site’s interface with HSE regulatory agencies.

A Day in the Life
  • Leads the HSE function to ensure continuous improvement of the HSE programs and performance.
  • Establishes and maintains Key Performance Indicators used to measure the site HSE performance.
  • Ensures the HSE programs and practices are consistent with LyondellBasell's Operational Excellence Standards and in compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
  • Develops and recommends business driven and cost effective HSE strategies.
  • Proactively develops and deploys HSE programs to reduce work-related injuries and illnesses, and prevent harm to the environment.
  • Acts as the champion to insure proper investigation and follow-up is taken on safety concerns, near misses and incidents.
  • Addresses all internal and external customer inquiries and reporting requirements regarding health, safety, environmental and security matters.
  • Facilitates employee involvement, awareness, and continuous improvement in all LyondellBasell safety programs.
  • Builds relationships and maintains on‑going communications with plant staff and manufacturing personnel to develop and maintain a collaborative work environment.
  • Manages organizational aspects, succession planning, and talent management strategies for the Health, Safety, Environmental and Security function to develop staff with expertise and knowledge. Sets performance and development goals for their staff of ten (10) employees.
  • Responsible for a contract security force.
You Bring This Value
  • B.S. degree in engineering, relevant sciences or specific HSE discipline
  • Typically, a minimum of 6 years of chemical plant or refinery operations experience, or education and equivalent experience in chemical or refinery industry
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory processes applicable to a plant operation
  • Knowledge of or experience with HSE, operating, maintenance, and engineering processes and procedures, business fundamentals, and shared services role in manufacturing
  • Strong people and organizational leadership acumen demonstrated through previous experience within manufacturing
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to interface with all organizational levels within the company
  • Critical Competencies: strategic leadership, driving improvement in others, champion of change, driving and managing teamwork, managing situational, delegation and empowerment, communication effectiveness and initiative
Preferred Qualifications & Competencies
  • Experience representing a company to the various regulatory agencies
  • Previous supervisory and/or leadership experience
