Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for planning, developing, implementing and monitoring of the Safety Management and Emergency Preparedness-Disaster Readiness Programs. Plans and directs the aforementioned activities and ensures that those activities are performed and documented in accordance with appropriate JCAHO standards and requirements, codes and legislation.

  • You will act as the hospital Safety Officer and is authorized by the CEO to intervene whenever conditions immediately threaten life or health or threaten damage to equipment or buildings.
  • You will manage the hospital’s overall safety, EOC, OSHA & EPA compliance programs so that they comply with Federal, Joint Commission (JCAHO), Texas State and El Paso City requirements and regulations.
  • You will plan, prepare and oversee the conduct of all EOC, safety, OSHA, EPA related training as required.
  • You will coordinate the hospital’s emergency preparedness activities. Chair the hospital’s Emergency Preparedness committee. Sit on the El Paso City-County Emergency Management & Anti-Terrorism Committee.
  • You will coordinate and schedule Environment of Care Activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to scheduling the hospital’s safety-disaster preparedness related team meetings, training safety inspectors, coordinating safety/OSHA/EPA surveys, preparing survey reports and implementing compliance activities based on survey findings. Reports safety/EOC, OSHA and EPA related data and issues to the Admin. Director of Facilities Support and the Environment of Care Committee. In the absence of the Admin Director Support Services you will manage the activities of the Plant Operations (Engineering) department.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Required: Associates Degree. Training in OSHA safety standards for general industry is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Previous experience as a Safety Officer is preferred.
  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Required: Extensive experience in hospital safety.
