About The Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This position is located in Akron, OH; additional locations may be considered.

The Manager, Generation Project Development – Maidsville will be a member of the Generation Project Development team, supporting the strategy, planning, outreach, management, and execution of large-scale, new power generation projects.

This role requires strong organizational skills and in in-depth understanding of project planning and execution. Core responsibilities include leading or supporting site evaluation and selection, financial analysis, environmental and local permitting, fuel and water procurement, interconnection assessments, and securing land rights. The Manager, Generation Project Development is a key contributor to the execution and management of project contracts and agreements, managing and reporting on project schedule and budget, and coordinating procurement, and implementing project controls. The role leads cross-functional teams composed of experts from construction, operations, supply chain, environmental, external affairs, communications, legal, environmental, risk, regulated commodity sourcing/fuels, treasury, investor relations and finance.

Responsibilities Include
  • Leading development and execution of the Maidsville Energy Center in Maidsville WV, a 1200 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including the Owner’s Engineer, Original Equipment Manufacturers, General Contractor and subcontractors, and Engineering and Procurement entities.
  • Participating in cross-functional teams with organizations across FirstEnergy to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Supporting and effectively expediting site selection, permitting, environmental impact assessments, and grid interconnection.
  • Executing a system of controls and reporting that ensure projects are properly entitled, financed, permitted, and constructed.
  • Managing contracts associated with the Project and addressing any issues that may arise.
  • Addressing regulatory, technical, and market risks to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and meet compliance requirements.
  • Fostering a high-performing safety culture where employees own, promote and reinforce safe behaviors and feel empowered to speak up.
  • Ensuring project compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Facilitating generation development project equipment and services procurement and Supply Chain efforts.
  • Providing project status reports and supporting the organization of emergent information requests.
Qualifications Include
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business with 7 years of relevant experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, candidates with 10 years of relevant experience will be considered. PE license and previous Leadership, Generation, engineering, or construction experience are preferred.
  • Relevant experience includes extensive knowledge of project management concepts and practices, generation project development, and energy markets.
  • Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers and the public.
  • Excellent computer skills including all MS Office applications, interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong risk analysis and project planning/execution skills, and strong analytical ability are required. Must be able to effectively prioritize multiple key project efforts.
  • Demonstrate the Leadership skills to effectively lead change management processes from concept to completion.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic leader who functions well independently and can communicate, motivate, and drive positive workforce changes to achieve intended process controls and improvements.
