What the role delivers
Manages technical and maintenance departments of the acrylic polymer manufacturing process. Responsibilities include implementation of capital improvements, acting as a technical resource for equipment and processes, and leading the maintenance department to ensure uninterrupted production plans through direction of a maintenance group using effective preventive maintenance programs and prompt, correct equipment repair the first time every time. As a member of the Site Management Team, works with other department heads and the plant manager to direct the plant to meet all safety, environmental, and operational goals.
What you will do
- As a department manager, comply with all Roehmann governmental safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure that subordinates are well trained and competent to carry out their duties in a safe fashion following accepted procedures.
- Maintain the safety practices of all contractors entering the premises.
- Provide service to the production group to design improvements to the process and advise during production upsets. Foster cooperation between shift mechanics and operators to perform departmental responsibilities to encourage cooperation.
- Implement capital projects in a cost‑effective way for process improvements, equipment replacement, de‑bottlenecking, etc., with a project engineering group that are compliant with PSM plant standards including Management of Change (MOC).
- Coordinate the preparation of capital job orders issued by the plant for all projects, reporting the status of approved and future expenditures on a monthly basis. Prepare an annual capital expenditure budget with quarterly reporting. Maintain a 5‑year plan for future capital expenditures inline with business and operational needs.
- Guarantee that all emergency equipment, devices and alarms are functional.
- Maximize equipment uptime and machine reliability through comprehensive preventive maintenance programs and competent, quick repair.
- Lead the annual two‑week maintenance turnaround including the plant‑wide electrical outage.
- Maintain effective systems for scheduling of work orders and measurement of cost.
- Understand how to use SAP to manage maintenance work, PM’s, equipment master data, and spare parts to act as a secondary for maintenance activities.
- Direct energy conservation efforts.
- Actively support quality improvement programs.
- The employee must be completely conversant with applicable safety, loss prevention, and environmental standards of the Company, business group, and plant. Must also be aware of the regulatory requirements and must implement those standards as specified in the standards and regulatory requirements in this work assignment.
- Use of SAP PRIMA Project Portal for capital job request approval workflow and capital project cost accounting and forecasting.
- Manage capital and maintenance budgets to ensure they meet budgets given by the organization.
- Accountable and responsible to ensure all relative elements of the TPM (Total Productive Management) process, Focused Improvement, Autonomous Management, Planned Maintenance, and Training and Education Pillars are managed consistent with the TPM sustainability process outlined in 5‑9539 as applicable to the respective departments.
What we are seeking
- BS in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 10-15 years experience in Engineering, Maintenance or Operations.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of pumps, extrusion, rotating equipment, electrical switchgear, PLCs, controls, and instrumentation.
