Job summary

AbbVie is seeking an engineering leader to direct a site's engineering department, guiding a team of engineers and supervisors. You will shape engineering strategy, drive continuous improvement, and oversee capital projects while fostering a culture of high performance.

You will ensure compliance with GMP, EHS, and quality standards, manage budgets and resources, and partner with cross-functional teams to meet site objectives and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• 8+ years’ experience in engineering roles with progressive responsibilities including supervision and department management.
• Business acumen with leadership experience required to drive high performance.

Responsibilities

• Set, direct, and control all department and financial goals, budget and objectives for the engineering area assigned.
• Drive and lead the engineering department to meet site/engineering business strategies; accountable for cost center expenses, project budgets, and delivery of projects to support required plant/facility projects and programs.
• Responsible for compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major projects within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fall back strategies.
• Has full awareness of the potential consequences (defects and failure modes) of design changes to established processes.
• Mitigates risk within functions through sound design, early risk assessments and implementation of fallback strategies.
• Recommend and implement business strategies and engineering controls to reduce costs, increase efficiencies, and drive world-class performance.
• Collaborate with peers and cross-functional partners to define action plans, timelines and budgets for project goals, and manage/plan/assign engineering resources required for execution.
• Analyzes business forces (customers, suppliers, competitors, technologies, government regulations) in major markets to identify trends and recommend responses. Independently executes, and/or directs others in the execution of: the design of products/processes/equipment/systems/facilities by applying novel engineering therories, concepts, and techniques within the discipline.
• Develop and manage staff through hiring, managing performance, developing talent and providing clear expectations.

Provide leadership and direction for a site’s engineering department or group. Direct a staff of engineers and/or Supervisors. Interpret site directives and apply advanced scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to define engineering strategy, continuous improvement and capital projects. Lead department or group personnel development, building and supporting a culture of high performance. Ensure adherence to policy/procedures related to Engineering Standards/Specifications, EHS, quality, and GMP manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence. Advanced degree in a technical field preferred.
• 8+ years’ experience including: work as an individual contributor building technical expertise and proved project management skills. Progressively increased responsibility and performance as a supervisor, department manager in multiple areas of Operations. Post-graduate degree may contribute towards the desired years of experience.
• Business acumen coupled with leadership experience is required to drive high performance.
