Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced aerospace systems engineer to lead and mentor a team of engineers across the full lifecycle of aerospace structures and mechanisms. You will own subsystem baselines, manage cost and schedule, and coordinate external procurements to meet mission objectives while balancing risk.

The role requires strong leadership, 8+ years in aerospace development, and excellent communication. Relocation support and potential travel are offered as part of the package.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading and mentoring technical teams and groups.
  • 8+ years of aerospace structures/mechanisms development lifecycle experience.
  • Experience in requirement definition, design, integration, verification and qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Define, own and control subsystem baselines (technical, cost and schedule).
  • Lead a team of engineers to design, analyze, test and deliver hardware/software components.
  • Manage procurements and internal dependencies to meet subsystem deliveries.
  • Mentor direct reports and drive performance development.
  • Apply data-driven management to improve program operations.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Van Horn Specific information

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee’s additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance. Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities include:
  • Define, own, and control the subsystem technical baseline, performing technical work and providing technical leadership of the highest caliber.
  • Define, own, and control the subsystem cost and schedule baseline, driving continuous improvement and refinement of the baseline to meet needs and targets in a dynamic development environment.
  • Manage a team of engineers to specify, design, analyze, manufacture, integrate, test, and deliver hardware and software components that satisfy mission objectives while balancing cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Manage external procurements and internal hardware dependencies required to meet subsystem deliveries.
  • Manage your direct reports’ professional development (e.g., performance reviews, compensation and promotion management, routine one-on-one development conversations) and coach them on performance.
  • Drive excellence in programmatic and project operations through data-driven management approach
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in leading and mentoring technical teams and functional groups, demonstrating strong leadership skills and a commitment to employee development.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in the full lifecycle development of aerospace structures and/or mechanisms
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of: requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operation
  • Resource management experience leading multidisciplinary development projects, including managing staffing, budget, and schedule.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or another technical field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing, building and testing pyrotechnically actuated mechanisms
  • Experience designing, building and testing large deployable structures
  • Experience with verification, integration, and test, of integrated subsystems or systems on a spacecraft.
  • Experience with space vehicle mission operations.
  • Experience managing suppliers/subcontracts.
  • Familiarity with agile project management.
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements. management and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in engineering or another technical field.

Base Pay Range for:

CA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50CO applicants is $138,181.00 - $193,453.05WA applicants is $150,743.00 - $211,039.50
