Capital One in McLean, VA, seeks a Manager, Data Science to lead end-to-end machine learning projects, translating analytics into business impact for Small Business Bank. You will collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver customer-focused data products and drive strategic decisions.

The role requires advanced quantitative degrees with significant data analytics and ML experience, and a breadth of tech skills including Python, AWS, Spark, and SQL.

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field plus 6 years of data analytics experience
• Master’s degree in a quantitative field or MBA with quantitative concentration plus 4 years of data analytics experience
• PhD in a quantitative field plus 1 year of data analytics experience
• At least 1 year leveraging open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
• At least 1 year working with machine learning
• At least 1 year utilizing relational databases

Build machine learning and customer value models for Small Business Bank while partnering with cross-functional teams to drive strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver customer-focused data products
• Apply a broad technology stack to uncover patterns in large-scale numeric and textual data (including Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more)
• Lead machine learning model development end-to-end: design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation
• Translate analytical work into tangible business goals for Small Business Bank (SBB)
• Develop account-level lifetime value (NPV) models to forecast revenue and cost drivers that inform SBB strategy

Requirements

• Option A: Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field) plus 6 years of data analytics experience
• Option B: Master’s Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration plus 4 years of data analytics experience
• Option C: PhD in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field) plus 1 year of data analytics experience
• At least 1 year leveraging open source programming languages for large scale data analysis
• At least 1 year working with machine learning
• At least 1 year utilizing relational databases

• At least 4 years of experience with machine learning and statistical modeling
• At least 4 years of experience with SQL

Compensation

• McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100 per year (Mgr, Data Science)
• Eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI)
• Incentives could be discretionary or non‑discretionary depending on the plan
