Job summary

Data Operations & R&D Data Management Manager in St. Paul, MN, leads data strategy and operations to support AI/ML development for cardiac technologies. Oversees data collection, governance, and readiness across clinical, imaging, and mapping data throughout the product lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineering, AI/ML teams, and clinical partners to ensure data quality, privacy, and regulatory compliance while managing vendors and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• 5+ years in data management or related areas.
• Experience managing large, diverse datasets (clinical, imaging, mapping).
• Experience with data governance, metadata management, cataloging, and data quality processes.
• Working knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks) and data privacy/compliance.
• Proficient in SQL and scripting (Python).
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data architecture, metadata standards, and common data models across datasets.
• Manage end-to-end data transfer, ingestion, validation, and lifecycle tracking with clinical sites and teams.
• Collaborate with engineering/AI teams to resolve data quality issues for model prep.
• Oversee data labeling/annotation programs, vendor management, and QA.
• Establish data governance covering access, retention, and security.
• Coordinate with Cybersecurity, Privacy, Legal, and Clinical teams to ensure compliance.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, lineage records, and SOPs.
• Serve as main contact across R&D, Clinical, IT/Cloud, and AI/ML teams.
• Manage external vendors, contracts, timelines, and deliverables.

Data Operations & R&D Data Management Manager

Location: St. Paul, MN

About the Role

A leading medical device R&D organization is looking for a Data Operations & R&D Data Management Manager to lead data strategy and operations supporting AI/ML development for next-generation cardiac technologies. This role oversees how clinical, imaging, and mapping data is collected, governed, and made ready for use across the product development lifecycle.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain the data architecture, metadata standards, and common data models used across clinical and imaging datasets
• Manage end-to-end data transfer, ingestion, validation, and lifecycle tracking with clinical sites, field teams, and physicians
• Partner with engineering and AI/ML teams to resolve data quality issues and prepare datasets for model development
• Oversee data labeling and annotation programs, including vendor management and quality control
• Set up data governance covering access, retention, stewardship, and security
• Coordinate with Cybersecurity, Privacy, Legal, and Clinical teams to keep data handling compliant
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, lineage records, and SOPs
• Act as the main point of contact across R&D, Clinical, IT/Cloud, and AI/ML teams
• Manage external vendors, contracts, timelines, and deliverables

What You Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, Health Informatics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years in data management, data operations, data engineering, or clinical data support
• Experience managing large, diverse datasets (clinical, imaging, mapping, or time-series)
• Experience with data governance, metadata management, cataloging, and data quality processes
• Working knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure, Databricks, or similar)
• Strong grasp of data privacy, security, and compliance in a regulated environment
• Working knowledge of SQL and scripting/programming (Python)
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice to Have

• Background in medical devices, healthcare, or life sciences R&D
• Familiarity with electrophysiology, cardiac mapping, or clinical imaging data
• Knowledge of DICOM, HL7, or FHIR standards
• Experience with AI/ML dataset prep, annotation, validation, or MLOps
• Experience with governance tools like Microsoft Purview, Collibra, or Alation
• Knowledge of FDA regulations, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, HIPAA, or GDPR
